Writing group starting in Milwaukee

The saying, "You teach best what you need to learn most," often is a part of my life. Since I need to write more, I am going to facilitate a way to do that.

A writing small group called "Just A Word" is starting in Milwaukee. It is open to anyone, not just members of the church. (Send me a note if you are interested in joining it.)

Do you enjoy writing? Would you like to be a better writer? Would you like to know how to write? Can you take an idea and run with it or would you like to know how others do that?

Just a Word is simply a small group of those interested in writing. You will get a chance to express yourself in words. You will get a chance to edit and help others write and re-write pieces of interest.

The group will meet once a month at Spirit Life Church,located on 76th Street, just north of Brown Deer Road (formerly in Mequon). You need not be a member of the church to join the small group, although some writings will focus on things for the church, or any other church.

The writing will sometimes be for yourself and sometimes for others. We will look at the writing process including getting an idea, putting down the thoughts, editing, re-writing and when to know it is a final piece. Many types of writing also will be discussed. As needed, we may be able to write monologues and skits for worship and help edit the church newsletter and brochures.

Do you know yet what part of the month you'll be meeting and for how long?

Also, when you do set meeting times I encourage you to also post this to WisEvents.com, which is the website our "upcoming events" comes from, and where our calendar is.

It will be one of the Sundays after our second service, so around 12:30 p.m. Which Sunday will depend in part as to whom is interested and the availability (i.e. other meetings).

Why not set-up an online message board for out of towners to share and get feedback? I was hoping to get that here but it doesn't seem to work that way. :cry:

It is something to consider. At the present time, I only have email at work because I only use a cell phone and can't get DSL nor cable because of the age of the building I line in (I know too much information). When that changes and I can spend the time at home, I will definitely think about that.

My other concern that seems to be repeated is that people are concerned about putting their writing on the internet for privacy and copyright reasons. I will look into ways of protecting those issues before it happens. I would be happy to take a look at some of your stuff personally if you want and give you feedback. I do some editing now for my business and would be happy to do that on a limited basis for someone from the group without making it my business. Let me know and you can send it privately or figure out some other way to do it.

The first meeting of the Just a Wrod Creative Writing Small Group will be Sunday, October 20, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Feel free to pm me if you are interested in joining us. We will meet the third (or alternately the fourth on occasion) Sunday.
