Love

Love starts deep with in
like a spring building pressure
until it seeps to the surface.

At first, it's just a trickle
winding its way through the
rocks and crannies of your life.

A mere nuisances, beneath your step,
getting your feet wet.
Then before you know it,
your naked in a barrel,
going over Niagara
Falls.

Milkweed

My life began like a milkweed seed
pulled from the bloom and set a
drift on the wind.

As a little girl, she had been raised
to believe in the tradition of family.
Motherhood was an esteemed social status.

And the milkweed drifted into the palm of
her out stretched hand. Grandmother
had taught her that these were wishing seeds.

She had but one wish as she tenderly
let the lone seed drift away on the wind,
but motherhood did not come smiling.

Granted it arrived, but with out the swelling
stomach and protruding breast, rather a
forgotten dream that settled like a seed
at her doorstep.

Out of Season

Once I would have gone in search of Love,
the divine fruit. Whose taste is both sweet and sour,
a tongue-twisting, mind boggling, aphrodisiac.

Now I am certain it is as lost as the tree of life,
for I have donned my spinsters dress, but I
no longer cringe at the thought of being alone.

I much more prefer meat and potatoes now.
