I'm a big fan of donuts.. usually I'll hit the day olds the first thing I get into our Walmart! Love all kinds but warm original glazed is my favorite with a good brewed cup of coffee.
There is a place in Richland Center called Papa's Donuts and they have the best cinnamon glazed donuts! We also like their raspberry filled donuts on occasion. You have to get there early though or the cinnamon ones will be all gone.
There's still no actual Krispy Kreme in our area but we used to drive all the way to Springfield to go there and stop at Bass Pro Shop.. it's always better if you can get them fresh and warm. I love "real" donut shops, where it's basically just donuts and coffee..
If I ever bought more than one donut at a time, I'd gorge myself til I was sick. And it would be wonderful! I love donuts.
My dad taught me very young when you go into a donut bakery, ask for the freshest one still warm from the oven and it will be the best no matter what flavor.
These days I have one only after a full meal and with coffee to prevent the sugar low afterwards.
I like donuts, sometimes. I don't go out of my way to pick them up at the store and when I do even with kids here I sometimes will end up tossing one or two out if I buy a box.
Once in a while I will get a taste for one at the gas station, usually a cake one with chocolate frosting. Not long ago my son came out with one for me but it was also filled which is great but way to rich to eat the whole thing at once.
Remember, I'm more of a pie eater myself. lol

Heard Krispy Kreme is really going down in sales and will be closing stores soon if they haven't already by now. I could never see what was so great about a Krispy Kreme that made them so popular.
If I had to choose from the various donut places to grab a donut I would have to stop at Dunkin Donuts over Krispy Kreme but even then I can't remember the last time I had a Dunkin Donut.
When we actually lived really close to a Dunkin Donut I would get a chocolate chip muffin over a donut.

I've had Krispy Kreme donuts once. We don't have one here, but the closest one I knew was in Brookfield, but that closed. The donuts that were hot were the best ones that they made, but the cold ones weren't anything special. My husband always said they reminded him of air donuts..not much donut and lots of air in them. If they didn't have the hot donuts most people wouldn't go out of their way for them.
I remember going to Dunkin Donuts as a kid when we pick of a variety of donuts in a box. This was a treat for us, because we had to go to Milwaukee area to get them so we didn't get them often. For us it was the little bakery in town which is still there and serving donuts and those big loaves of barrel bread. I haven't been there is a few years and always mean to stop, but just never get around to it.
He's right about their donuts seeming to be made of air and that's what I like about the hot ones.. they almost melt in your mouth!
Years ago, I had a crush on a waitress that worked the night shift and would usually get off work around 6am.. we'd walk across the street and go around the back door of the bakery there and get hot sticky buns and then walk down to the pier by the lake to eat them. She never liked me the way I liked her but we had some nice walks and talks back in those days (late 70's).. funny to think she'd be almost my age now. I guess the old flames grow old too.

I'm guessing this isn't anywhere near where you live now but maybe you could look her up online and send her a donut from the bakery if it is still there as a surprise.

Just for a laugh, I just tried looking her up on pipl.com (best place for free search), and no matches at all.. I'm sure she married and would have no idea what her married name would be. Desi Rinck, where are you?

I'd rather have regular cake. That wasn't a very good looking donut cake. Throw some chocolate or cream in there. But I can see the donut cake if someone had a late morning wedding and served it with coffee. Many people do have weddings at different times of day.
