Feeling Nutty? Which Type Nuts Do You Prefer?

You've heard the saying: Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.. when you feel like a nut, which kind do you reach for (my mom love pistachios)...

Pecans for baking. Why aren't they on the list? So common.

My favorite for snacking are honey roasted peanuts. They are so tasty.

Of course, we can't forget pecans.

They are great for baking, even find them in many cereals.

And almonds is another good one that I like in cereals. (silvered almonds, yum)

I hate to ask this but exactly what are 'pine nuts'? I know I have heard of them but can't really recall what they taste or look like.

pine nuts are from certain pine trees. They are used in savory foods more that sweet foods. I've had them in restaurants in dishes, but to buy them in a store is expensive. You won't find them by the other nuts. You'll probably find them in by the other cooking items such as by the Italian stuff. I'm not sure where I saw them last week at the store.

No, they don't taste like pine.

Can't say that I've ever had chestnuts. I've seen them a few times around Christmas, but don't know anyone that buys them.

I can't forget about hickory nuts. Talk about a tough nut to crack, but if you have the time they are worth the extra work.

I think I do know what they are. Just not something someone would run out to buy and say they are a favorite nut to eat I don't think.

I have had chestnuts but I think it's been years since I ate them. Again, not a real popular nut I'm guessing.

I actually pulled these from a list of favorite nuts.. cashews and almonds weren't on there so I never thought about adding them either.

Not picking on you Dave. lol I think I have it all figured out anyway. It has to just be a Wisconsin thing that we all think different up here. Could it be that we are all just a little nutty in Wisconsin??

Oh...I HATE hickory nuts! When we were kids we used to have to crack those darn things by the buckets for my mom to use in baking! They were so hard to crack open too!

If you look online there are little tricks people have for cracking them easier. You have to admit they taste good even if they are hard to get out.

I remember my dad smacking them with a hammer on a metal block to crack them. I also remember my mom putting them in hot water first.

I go for roasted almonds.....mmmm....something about the way they break cleanly in half when you bite them is good too.

Next is fresh pecans.

Then cashews, but they are pretty fatty.

Every single type needs dental floss afterwards, though.

Actually every single type I have to be careful with due to my TMJ. Ground nuts like walnuts or pecans are the easiest. Cashews are softer than most for larger nuts pieces.
