While many of us match the bait or lure to the fish, what do you find yourself using most often? Some prefer live bait, others prefer lures.. which are you? (I rarely have used anything other than worms or minnows).
If you have a favorite, feel free to share your favorite fishing tale to go along with it!
Fishing? lol I am sure I would love to fish if I knew how. Seems as if there is a lot of things to do or know about. I have gone a few times but mostly when I've gone I have used the time to just sit in the boat and read a book and watch. Or I get to 'hold the pole'. lol OK, so I was good for something.
I remember one time years ago, I was taking a tax course and I sat on the pier reading my tax book while watching my husband have the fun of fishing. But actually it can be very relaxing just being there.
The only time I did catch a fish though we let it go right away. I am totally for catch and release.

When I lived in NY, I used to go fishing nearly every day.. we either always lived on a pond, on the lake (Ontario), river, or bay.
One thing I miss about living here in Missouri, I don't live near any water. I'm used to living near a lake or the ocean!
To stay on topic, I used to own a huge box of tackle that I bought at a garage sale for $50.. rarely used any of the lures tho as I always preferred live bait so sold the tackle for $300 (nice profit).
Never had any luck with artificial lures to speak of except for one time when I cast a spinner lure and a bass immediately tore it off my line!

I like the relaxation of going through the motions of fishing but don't care about getting any - if I did, it would be catch and release.
My brother loves fishing and has for many years, but has never kept one and does not eat fish. He can show you how to filet one faster than anyone I ever knew, however.
My neighbor was planning on going fishing today but at 92 degrees with 79% humidity (here in Missouri where I live), I'm planning on enjoying the air conditioning today.

Depends what the catch of the day is. Spinners for white bass, minnows behind a spinner for muskies, plastic worms for largemouth, jigs and maybe wax worms for crappie, etc....
I hear ya.. I really miss going fishing! Want to try and go at least once this summer!

Not much to it. Just throw a line out and wait and wait...and wait. We used to fish all the time when I was a kid. Very relaxing being out in a boat. My dad got the job of putting the worms on the hook. There was no way I was going rip those big worms in half to put on a hook. It's fun when you catch a fish that likes to put up a fight, because it's a battle to see who wins.
The downside to catch and release is that the fish can become injured from the hook and throwing him back is pointless if he just dies anyway. I'm for catch and eat!
When my brother and I were young we had a little saying we said while waiting for fish to bite. "Fishy, fishy, wishy, wishy, come and bite my hook." Good times back then. I always used a cane pole to fish with and that amused my family since the line is so long you end up with the fish sometimes hitting the side of the boat with a loud thunk. That was a lucky fishing pole, caught many fish with it.

Cane poles were the BEST! That's what I used growing up too. Can you even buy them anymore?
When I was in middle school, we lived in Genoa City and the creek ran along our back yard. My siblings and I spent many great hours fishing out there. I hated when those darn crawdads would take the worms though! I also used to like fishing off the little walking bridge at the park because you could catch much bigger fish around there.
I still love to go fishing but my husband doesn't have the patience for it so it's been years since I've gone. My son recently decided he likes to go fishing after he went with some friends on free fishing day. He even bought a license...so maybe he and I can go sometime this year before he heads back to college.
Anybody ever catch anything besides a fish on your hook? Once we caught a turtle and other times we'd catch crawfish.
The oddest thing I've heard of being caught on a fishing line was a deer. Heard this story about a week ago. The deer jumped in the water and got caught in the fishing line and snapped it.
