I really miss my mom (who passed away in 1997).. I often think how much she would have enjoyed living in this part of the country and think of her every day.
While I can't visit her at the cemetery as she's buried in NY, I'll certainly be thinking of her on Mother's day.
My family never makes a big deal out of mother's or father's days. I think the card companies created it to sell more cards. I usually give a card and small gift. My mom's birthday is so close to mother's day always so I have to also give a gift and card for that at the same time.
My husband's family is expecting to have all of us over there. We may pop in a for a quick visit, but neither of us wants to stay the whole day since we've seen plenty of the family lately.
I plan to go spend either Thursday or Friday with my mom. Since she will have other company on Mother's Day, I like to go during the week so we can make the her special day last longer. I will take her out to lunch at her favorite Chinese restaurant in Fennimore and then probably take her shopping since she doesn't drive. I got her a gift card to her local grocery store plus I bought her a cutting board that has cats on it and a pen that says "Mom". I'm thinking about getting her some carnations too.
As for me, I will probably get phone calls and cards from both of my sons. I don't expect to see them since one is off at college and the other lives in Oklahoma. Depending on the weather on Mother's Day, my husband and I may go do something together that day.
My mom was killed when I was 24. (32 years ago) Mothers Day is the only time I miss her.
I send my stepmother a card and sometimes stop by with flowers.
As it is now, my 3 sons are all busy with their wives and their families and the sister I raised is a mother herself, busy with her own family. Sometimes one of them will send me a card.
Well i guess i have a change of plans... My son has been at his aunts all week & made some money while there, so he called & asked me to reserve moms day afternoon because he would like to take me out for lunch
