Re: What's your favorite part of the Wisconsin State Fair?
I clicked 'everything' thinking years back when I use to love the carnival rides. But to be truthful I don't go near the rides anymore. The concerts attract me the most and I still love to check out all the animals and the photography section the most. Creme puffs and the pork burgers are the best!
We try to go at least one Saturday night each year. My oldest daughter on the other hand takes one day each year with her son from the early morning until night. They have a ton of fun.

I'd have to say the food, but it's not going to be the cream puffs. They're ok, but I can think of lots of other things I'd buy before that. Besides after you see the size of the cream puffs and other sweets at Pine Cone, you won't want a puny cream puff from the state fair.
Last time I was at the state fair I was getting to irritated by people. It was too crowded and everyone had to have a stroller or walk really slow in front of us. We had trouble finding a place to sit to eat since there wasn't many places to sit. I'll take my Summerfest over state fair any day. People are more spread out there and lots of places to sit.

To me the fair represent concerts, street bands, cream puffs, and pork sandwiches. Also checking out the photos submitted and seeing the animals.
Just wondering, am I the only one that fears the ride thing that goes across above the fair? I totally think the whole time that I am going to screw up getting off and fall flat on my face or something. lol

Re: What's your favorite part of the Wisconsin State Fair?
I guess I like everything about the Fair as a whole.
Over the years (and I'm only 26 ), I've come to like State Fair far more than Summerfest. In fact, I hardly ever go down to Summerfest anymore.
The Fair tends to be far more laid back and calmer because there aren't the huge mobs of drunken hooligans. There's generally more room to walk and breathe (again, because of the huge mobs of drunken hooligans out of the picture), the food and music are great, and there's a lot to see. Now, don't get me wrong here...I love to slam down a few ice-cold ones from time to time, too. But I don't want to be surrounded by people who look like they're ready to throw up all over me.
For those who love steak, check out the Wisconsin Cattlemen's Association booth...excellent ribeye steak sandwich! It's something I have to have every year now.

I've been going to Summerfest since the '80s, but don't see the mobs of drunken hooligans you speak of. I see the occasional drunk and can steer clear of that. It can get crowded at times, but usually not a problem for me. What can I say, I love Summerfest and never have a bad time there. It's all about the music, baby! (Oh, and the food!)

I know I wrote about this same thing somewhere on the forums. We went to Summerfest last summer on a Saturday night and it was so bad we left after a very short time. Didn't even eat or hear much of the bands. People were so drunk they were staggering around and pushing, hitting into people, and I to wondered if I was going to get hurled on, especially after getting beer slashed on me. Nasty. The place was crazy and we thought it best to just get out way before the place closed and all these drunks would most likely get into cars and drive.
I much prefer spending a Saturday night at the State Fair where the music is good, you can listen without people jumping on the tables in front of you and I think it is generally better supervised.

I have never been much of a festival food eater...but I do love the pork burgers at the State Fair. They are sooo good. But an excellent ribeye steak sandwich??? Oh I will totally have to try that next time we go. Any place that has a good steak at it is a place I want to be.
Thanks for the tip.
