"Bronze the Fonz" has been very controversial in Milwaukee. Do you think honoring a well-known fictional character adds art to the city or makes it look ridiculous?

Re: Milwaukee is putting up a statue of Fonzie from "Happy Days." Do you consider this art?

ridiculous? I don't see it that way at all. I think it shows Milwaukee can be fun. Also, Fonzie brought a lot of attention and awareness for Milwaukee. I think there should be no problem having a statue up.

(ridiculous is some forms of modern art statues that is most difficult to see what it's all about)!

I think it is fine. Our artists create the future!
Any creation will be criticized by a certain few, so let's enjoy aesthetics and promote our artists as they contribute much to society.

I think it's great idea. Memories of "Happy Days" are a much better image for Milwaukee than crime, high taxes and political corruption. We're losing so many Milwaukee icons like Goldmann's Department Store. The Fonzie statue is a tribute to days gone by. Not to mention that Henry Winkler himself is a stand-up fellow!

AAAA! Bronz the Fonz! I remember watching in my younger days. Why not bring a little of that history back... its not going to hurt.

laverne and shirley
thats what we need now. Perhaps they should fix the streets first so we can go down there and admire it. :P
however, it is history if you look at that way. i know my kids aren't going to know what a fonzy is or happy days at that. But my point of view is that the thought of it isn't art but the statue itself is. I believe history and art go hand in hand in most cases.
Where are they putting this "bronze fonz"? I have an old belt buckle with the fonz on it. Henry Winkler (the fonz) also played in some Adam Sandler movies as well.

He's going to be by the Rock Bottom Brewery at the Milwaukee Riverwalk.

A Fonzie belt buckle? That's definitely something I'd try to pick up on eBay! I had a Happy Days coloring book when I was a kid but it required a lot of black crayon to color Fonzie's hair and jacket on every page.

Re: Milwaukee is putting up a statue of Fonzie from "Happy Days." Do you consider this art?

while i wouldn't normally think that a movie personality should be put on such a pedestal, for some reason this seems like a good idea to me. the Fonz thru happy days somehow captured much more then a typical tv show could, and has maintained a personality that few stars today could. I wonder if they would like to build one for kenosha. I think al
deserves a place in one of our parks also, complete with nose pointing north towards milwaukee.
