Governor (more tax) Doyle
Governor (more tax) Doyle
Our current Governor has stood by his promise of no tax raises - but he has found a way to increase the money collected from citizens to pay for government spending - Doyle has invented a new tax. Yes, instead of increasing a current tax, he wishes to propose an internet usage tax.
Being that you must be on the internet to even read this, how does this make you feel? Would you pay a monthly tax in order to view these forums or get your email?
Let us know what you think!

tax
sure, sure - but you are speaking of sales tax. Not a new, invented and directed tax like an internet tax. Shall we tax radio usage next?

Attempting to tax internet usage is preposterous from a technical standpoint (does this include email? ftp? http? irc? usenet?), and stupid from a "not looking like an idiot" standpoint.
The government, state or otherwise, should stop trying to USE the internet, and instead try participating in it.

internet affordability
If internet affordability is at issue here, one might heed the recent effort in congress to prevent municipalities from providing internet access - thus securing the market for the cable big boys....Seems to be one of those nice little paybacks for the cable companies. Sniping at a governor that has done an admirable of straightening out Wisconsin's finances after his predecessor's spending spree...seems a bit pointless to me. I'd say there are bigger fish to fry - as the saying goes.

The idea of an Internet tax has been around for a long time. And of course there are many greedy states that want their share of sales tax on interent purchases, Arkansas being one of those states. Politicians are very creative at finding new sources of revenue.

Reviving this thread
Lazy politics and Doyle taking the easy way out again. Raising property taxes angers me more than anything else. With property values increasing every year, money from propery taxes goes up equally each year as well. So the state gets increases without raising the tax. Yet, Doyle sees fit the raise the tax anyway.
We need to elect people who can manage budgets and not just raise our taxes.
Mark
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Governor Doyle promised to reform the way the state pays for its schools in his first election bid, pleasing educators who backed his campaign.
No major reforms took place during his first term.
But Doyle's introduced a budget plan for the first half of his second that allows more local spending and is projected to result in an average property tax increase of at least five percent.
Miles Turner is the executive director of the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators.
He says that may be the best that could be expected with the state facing a one-point-six (b) billion dollar shortfall.
But he says it won't satisfy school officials or taxpayers.
Doyle's budget recommends an increase in school aid of one-point-seven percent the first year, starting July first, and one-point-six percent the second year.
The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance projects that under that plan property taxes will increase five-point-six percent on bills mailed in December.
That's compared with an estimated three-point-three percent hike on the bills due this year and a two-point-three percent increase the previous year.

BOOOOO Doyle stinks!!! The only thing that he seems interested in is find new and creative ways to tax us. You really have to hand it to him, he really knows how to dangle the enticing carrot and move in a entirely differant direction.

Hmmm...this sounds familiar
Funny, this sounds a lot like Diamond Jim's last great revenue genarator. You know, the five cent surcharge on gas that would not be passed along to consumers under penalty of jail time.
Just remember, the gov doesn't raise taxes...only fees go up! That's why it is now going to cost me over $100 every year to have the privilege of driving the family car around.

Doyle as Gov. is cheif of the DNR. I always thought that it was wrong to put a person in total charge of the DNR without any kind of wildlife degree or background. Not long after getting in office he fired or demoted 5 of the top DNR employees who built the entire careers climbing to the top of the DNR thru hard work and dedication. He replaced these people with personal that had absolutly NO wildlife education, or background. The only thing these people had in commen was that they all had ran fund raisers to help Adolf Doyles campain to get into office.
Further more, Doyles new "leaders" are the ones making all the CWD decisions that are being criticised by all the eperts across the country. Every time one of the long time knowlageable employees speaks up he is fired. The worst part about this whole thing is, these Guys who made a liveing running the DNR only to be fired so a friend of Doyles can take over, can't find any simalar work within Wisconsin working with wildlife and will likly be forced out of state
