In my opinion the best and cheapest fix to "health care reform" would if everyone would bring it to a personal level and simply make a quality decision to reform themselves into a committed, healthy lifestyle. Too many people do not get enough hours of sleep at night, diets are laden with fat, salt, and sugar, there's too little physical activity, and of course the poor choices with drinking and smoking (Wisconsin is terrible with that stat!). Our population is addicted to soda (even diet is bad). Much of the meat and dairy Americans consume contains growth hormones (banned in other countries). Then people wonder why they have high blood pressure, heart issues, and/or the fastest growing epidemic - diabetes. We tend to take better care of our vehicles than ourselves. Freedom must go hand in hand with responsibility.
Mark, I DEFINITELY agree that the government does not have the answer. Obama and his cronies are trying to turn us into the "United Socialist States of America" and we need good people like you to make others aware of the scheme. My first comment was that it's too bad that in this country we don't take a more preventative approach to our own personal health and that would translate into fewer "problems" to pay for.
Still think the "government option" is just to keep insurance companies "honest" and not a take-over?
Think again.
Quote from page 16 of the House Bill:
"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law.
Barney Frank admits that the "public option" will lead to "single payer" (full government takeover). Regardless of the rhetoric, that is the ultimate goal of the Democrats in power. They're just trying to figure out how to get it without being obvious. At least this guy is honest.
You wonder why people are scared, confused and untrusting on healthcare? Maybe it's because of all the mixed messages. Or maybe Obama just says what he thinks his audience wants to here. Changing his views to fit the crowd. That's not good either. So what are we to believe?
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says don't sweat the details of the government overhaul of healthcare. Just trust the government to get it right.
Sound like good advice to you? Don't look at the details in a thousand+ page bill? Seems to me that's where we always find surprises, and not good ones.
Seeing as how the government is always wrong when estimating the cost of anything, I tend to believe this story. The cost of the new health care plan will be a trillion dollars more then the trillion the CBO estimated.
Did that sober you up? You don't just dig up a couple trillion dollars by "squeezing" Doctors and Insurance companies. All for covering maybe 15 million more people.
From the article that leads to much more information:
AARP doesn't want misinformation and fear-mongering to dominate this debate. From allegations about rationing care to wild reports of government-sponsored euthanasia, the rumors just keep getting crazier. AARP wants to help you find the facts about what health-care reform will mean for you and your family.
I don't understand why the party of ACORN, Moveon.org, Greenpeace and Code Pink are suddenly appalled at organized protesting. I thought it was the highest form of patriotism?
The right has taken some lessons from the left, and now they're outraged. I find it funny.
And c'mon Keith, Rachel Maddow is your source of information? That would be like me pulling up Sean Hannity clips. I wouldn't call that a good source either. I would expect more out of you.

There isn't anything wrong with organized protest. The RNC is spending $1 million to promote the disruption of town hall meetings - not to protest.

What's funny about some of the most powerful people in the country sponsoring the disruption of town hall meetings, and the dissemination of crazy conspiracy theories?

I found her candor refreshing. Good to see and hear someone candidly showing the relationships between the moneyed and powerful and the "grass roots protests." She shows direct ties to noxious lies from a health care insurance company lobbyist that are unwittingly repeated by people in Congress (who should know better) as 'facts' from an 'independent source' of analysis.
It is good to see Rachel Maddow laugh at the ridiculousness of some of the takes on the issues she examines...especially as she illustrates the manipulation that is taking place on those issues - often by demagogues with ties to the same sources of money and influence on the right.
I don't know who Sean Hannity is.
I didn't know Rachel Maddow until I came across her on YouTube this weekend looking for rebuttals to the incessant posts here on theBubbler that are inspired by the 'ridiculous right' (like the still persistent theory that President Obama isn't an American - see Obama gets snubbed).
I expect plenty from myself, so you don't have to expect more out of me than I do. If you have an issue with Rachel Maddow, please name it rather than just say you wouldn't call her a good source.
Sean Hannity is "Rush Jr". Rachel Maddow is the mirror image. Like Ed Schultz.
I'm actually more interested in the final legislation, which we don't have yet. Maybe, just maybe, if people didn't feel like the current administration was trying to rush things to the point where bills are voted on before they're ever written (Cap and Trade), there wouldn't be such a panic.
There's plenty that can be done about refroming health care, but one gigantic piece of legislation won't do it (correctly).
