Where are the all the new jobs?
The term "save or create" is a ploy never used by any other President. Because it can't be quantified.
The stimulus was supposed to be a "jolt" to the economy in order to save it. 800 billion dollars later, where's the jolt?
Remember, it's got to be done, no time to waste, Catapiller will start re-hiring, this will save or create 3-4 million jobs.
Now it's an afterthought.

Re: Where are the all the new jobs?
I know where they are. Same place all the old jobs are...gone!
I know how to create new jobs. Just lay everyone off and the hire people back. There's the "new" jobs. Ok, I'm feeling sarcastic tonight since I want to know where the jobs are too.

Which is usually the case, however there will always be those who expect miracles & want something to complain about, so it wont happen fast enough for them.

That would be me! Job hunting gets old and frustrating. So yeah, I will complain until I find a job. That's kind of why I went back to school to get a degree, so I could get a better job doing something I liked.
Well, I hear that new McDonald's will be opening in Watertown soon. I better beat the rush and go apply.
So who wants fries with that?

Takes time, don't care how much money is involved... you wont see results in an instant, it's ridiculous to expect that.
I'm not trying to debate, i was simply agreeing with Dave.

You complaiing about not finding a job isn't the same as those who want to blame it on Obama, after a short while in office & taking away blame from Bush, who caused this mess to begin with... Those who want magical results & want to push blame when they don't see them instantly etc... I didn't mean you at all.
___________
NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE SPECIFIC
I swore off the political forums here when the insults started flying & i noticed some don't know how to debate without being rude... so i apologize for opening this thread & will be on my way
Enjoy.

Re: Where are the all the new jobs?
LOL I used to blame Bush, now I blame Obama. I need to blame someone. I'm just hoping it turns around really soon since I don't have the patience that they keep telling us to have. My unemployment benefits won't last forever and I would rather get a paycheck than a handout.
Yeah, how did I end up in a political thread anyway? I know, it was the headline about jobs.

Re: Where are the all the new jobs?
True enough.. but I wouldn't expect it within a couple months..
Roads, bridges, a new coat of paint on the courthouse.. they're all fine and may keep the construction industry kicking but I'd have rather seen the average Joe or Jane (or Dave, in my case) get a chunk of spending money smack dab in every US mailbox.
Buying groceries, clothes, school supplies, new big screen, whatever.. they all help stimulate the economy too and I'd care alot more about that than goverment projects that won't affect me much directly, if at all.
Not to mention, as has been mentioned, once these government programs getting started chewing up money, they are hard to stop.
But.. alot more jobs will be lost before (if) we begin to see any gain.. just as with a bankruptcy reorganization, it doesn't happen overnight.

Re: Where are the all the new jobs?
I worked seasonal work for over 20 years and many years wouldn't even bother collecting unemployment because it was such a hassle and didn't amount to enough to bother with.. but I have almost always made more money on the side (flea market, consulting, etc) than I ever did working a 9-5.
Harry Truman: The Buck Stops Here.. I don't think there has ever been an Administration who hasn't taken heat for it's policies. What's rare is an Administration willing to accept responsibility.
Things take time.. you don't paint a house with one stroke.

But if you stroke the same spot continously you will never get anywhere either.
Cogswell cogs closed thier plant in Wisconsin and moved their production facility to Illinois.
Capitol times reports the plant closure and loss of jobs and the Chicago Tribune announces jobs creation with the new Cogswell cogs production facility.
Is it a loss? or is it a gain?

As I have been noticing, the Grey matter between is where the answers lye.
As if a 680,000 un-employed people, expiring their benefits=a drop in un-employment. Knowing they refer to (new Applicants) The stats don't reflect, (Who actually got a Job). Grey Matter?
Agree with you all on the subject of most these positions are not in the general sector of blue collar jobs (yet).
The designers, planners, and surveyor's are already making an impact at the gas station my Wife manages. Coffee, Snacks, Pizza sales, ect. She has stated that the increase of sales, is directly associated to the plans on building a new High School, and the updating of the cities Water supply system.
Can you believe the City had a leaking water main for 14 years, could not fix it, due to the fact there was no shot off valve for any portion of the whole Line. They had to call in a group from Michigan to fix the leak (Under Pressure).
Talk about outdated.
I agree W/ Dave (Roads, bridges, a new coat of paint on the courthouse.. they're all fine and may keep the construction industry kicking but I'd have rather seen the average Joe or Jane (or Dave, in my case) get a chunk of spending money smack dab in every US mailbox. )
Buying groceries, clothes, school supplies, new big screen, whatever.. they all help stimulate the economy too and I'd care allot more about that than government projects that won't affect me much directly, if at all.
Loved the (fries with that burger) comment. Painfully it is accurate, if I had a dime for every collage grad that worked at the station with my Wife.
Until Then.

But there is some difference between me and them I think. I'm not 22 and just graduated. I worked for many years before deciding to go back to school. I have work experience including my field, often young grads have very little. I've had lots of practice getting up every day and going to work. I have proven I'm reliable and can work with others. It's a lot harder to "lower" your standards to a lesser job when you are way past the early twenties.
So if you all cross your fingers for me, maybe I'll find something soon. Nothing that requires selling fries either.

Are these projects related to the Stimulus? There are projects that have been planned for some time now with no relation to the stimulus. The state till can't decide what to do with the money.
Just curious what stimulus earmark is responsible for those projects.

Blue,
My toe's are crossed for you, as well. You sound like a Honey of a Lady. Being in complete agree meant, many of the gal's, are younger. A Graduates in Education, by our friend, ( and my Wifes work companion ) 40's something ( I try to be a Gentleman ), and many Single Mom's, coming into employment and out of, just trying to finish High School.
Our friend with the Grad. Degree is not working for the Money, she is self reliant.
My Friend worked with Karen at the store, she is working on her Masters in Social Science. Works at the Human Services Dept. Her job has cut back hours, forcing her to be unable to make enough $$, to keep her kids in Child Care, while she takes Classes. just don't give up to despair.
Good Luck!

The BLS reports that 13.1 million people are currently unemployed, so in May 2010 we would have approx. 14.6 million unemployed – that’s 13.1 million plus an average of 130,000 jobs lost per month over the next 12 months (note: That’s an absurdly low number given that we’re still seeing four times that amount.) So the bottom line is that we actually need to create nearly 7 million jobs to get back to 4.9% if we rise to 9.5% unemployment in the next 12 months.
But don’t forget - The U.S. needs to add 137,000 jobs a month to keep up with the pace of working-age population growth. If we add in the 27 months we failed to add those jobs to our total, the number of jobs we will need to create balloons to over 10.4 million.
