Two years. I don't remember being told that. I remember "immediate jolt" to the ecomomy. I remember "there's no time to waste". I remember Caterpiller would rehire with the passage of the plan. I remember unemployment wouldn't go over 8%.
What do you remember?
Maybe he's just being honest now. Two years is just in time for the next congressional elections.
Ever notice that when the press refers to politicians, that if they're Republican they point it out? But if they're a Democrat, it's not mentioned. Just like this story.

The good news is that they're applying for billions more. That should get a couple hundred more jobs.

So now, the stimulus wasn't designed to improve the economy. A trillion dollars (interest included) wasn't really for recovery. Don't these guys realize we could pull up any number of speeches, YouTube videos and news stories to dispute this?
I suppose the other "functions of economic recovery" are the Cap and Trade (energy tax) fiasco and Nationalized Healthcare. Ya that's it. Couple trillion more in spending. That'll get the economy going.

I wish I had a nickel for everytime I heard that the stimulus was going to put Americans to work fixing our crumbling roads and bridges. Well, if that were true, why then is the Chamber of Commerce lobbying the White House to raise gas taxes another 10 cents per gallon to fix roads and bridges?
With over 700 billion stimulus dollars left to spend, what's the problem? Why raise taxes? Just write some checks for all those "shovel ready" projects.

Let's check the status of the jolt. I love how these articles always have the word "surprise" or "unexpected". The only surprise to me would be if this pork package actually worked.
Now, not wanting to admit the truth about cash for clunkers, the White House will do the same for refrigerators. What's next? Washing Machines? Dryers? Dishwashers? Water Heaters?
Yep, if Cap and Trade passes for sure. It's in there. Except under the Cap and Trade Bill, you'll get a "bounty" for your old appliance. That's in there too.
