Wis Cigarettes, a buck more
Wisconsin smokers will soon get hit with a $1.oo tax added for each pack they purchase.
It seems that Wisconsin's cigarette tax becomes the 12-highest in the nation. This hike will have the tax going from .77 to a whopping 1.77 per pack now.
Some that will benefit from the tax hike will be across the border in Lake County Illinois. At least in our area down here by they border. Many of Wisconsites that live down here live here and work in Illinois. They are estimating the Illinois retailers will have many new customers from Wisconsin that will simply start buying their smokes on the way to work once they get into Illinois rather than closer to home.

Re: Wis Cigarettes, a buck more
No wonder Jim Doyle has such a oddly shaped head. It's must be holding a "Giant Brain" !
I think the price increase amounts to taxes. The tax money collected will go toward smokers health care, and funding smoking cessation, and education programs. Yet, an underlying effect will be smokers snuffing the butts, that is, quitting with the tobacco. If people stop smoking, the tax revenue dries up, and the preventative measures will lack funding. If the educational preventative measures are gone because of lack of tax revenue to fund them, how will the people coming up know that smoking is detrimental to their health?
Tax them till they bleed out...that appears to be Jim Doyle's political philosophy.

This is yet just another reason why I am sooo grateful I never got caught up with smoking.

11 months! Good for you! It's very difficult to quit the habit but it sure seems as if you are doing fantastic!

Re: Wis Cigarettes, a buck more
I don't mean to bump an old thread but I used to know a family of 5 where most of them smoked two to three packs of cigarettes a day. You add that up and it gets to be an enormous amount of money over time.
I tried smoking off and on over the years and never really got addicted. Not to mention, I'm too cheap to spend money on cigarettes!

Re: Wis Cigarettes, a buck more
I had to re read some of this to refresh my memory....
Good question PK.....are you still smoke free onez48??
Did you see on the news last night the new thing to quit smoking?
It's called Smoke Break
MyFox Milwaukee | New Product Helps Most Quit Smoking
Quote:
|
WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE -- Here's a tool so successful it helped more than 70% of smokers who tried it quit! When we first told you about "Smoke Break" a couple of years ago, it was merely an idea. Now FOX 6's Cathy Orosz explains it sailed through a clinical study, and it could be on the store shelves soon
