Well, Wisconsin in the last State in the union to pass a budget. Oh wait, they didn't yet.
With all the campaign promises, pork barrelling, feel good legislation and all other fluff, setting a budget is the one thing that politicians have to do in order to run a government. You have to ask yourself, what's the holdup?
To me, it shows the complete lack of leadership and responsibilty on the part of our elected leaders. Get down to business, get the facts, skip the B.S. politics and get on with it!
You think a small business owner could survive running a business like this? How about a family on a budget sorting out the monthly bills. Think they can just "let her ride" until who knows when?
This is truely a sign of incompetence. Seems like in a tax and spend State like ours, the problem with setting a budget is trying to figure out how to sell it to us so you don't question the pocket lining and tax raising.
Maybe when my tax bill is due I'll tell them that my budget isn't set for that yet.

September is almost over and still no budget. Now they're talking about how property taxes will go up if a budget isn't approved soon. What in the world does that mean? I'm sure our tax and spend state will jack my property taxes anyway. These guys (and gals) are baffoons. Try to run a business like that and you'll end up out of business.

Well here's the latest. Still no budget. Doyle and the Democrats want to raise taxes on the gas companies and Health care system (some sort of punishment tax to make us feel good). Then, we're supposed to be dumb enough to believe that those tax hikes on those industries won't be passed down to the consumer. Yeah right, I'll fall for that.

I'm sure Doyle's salary has already been written down in ink, so he doesn't really care about the budget past that.
Maybe that's the answer Mike, suspend all salaries for elected officials whenever a budget is past due. Even by a day. Then they don't get the back pay either. It's just lost. Bet that'd motivate the geniuses.

An update, Jim Doyle also proposes a tax increase of $1.25 on a pack of cigarettes, start a new tax on hospital profits, cut spending by $430 million from his original proposal.
From the looks of things, the Republicans are less than enthusiastic about the proposal, although the Democrats are ready to roll with Doyle. Along with the amount of funding for the University System, Republicans cannot agree on the hike in cigarette tax, or the new tax on hospital profits. The Speaker of the Assembly made a statement expressing his disappointment in the Governor, and accused him of walking away from the negotiations.
If you threaten to withhold salaries, the legislators would be inclined to pass any pile of papers with "State Budget" typed across the top.

MADISON (AP) - Governor Jim Doyle says he might have to partially shut down Wisconsin's state government if lawmakers don't pass a new state budget soon.
He says University of Wisconsin campuses might not be able to open for the second semester and state employees might have to be temporarily laid off.

This evening, I heard on a news broadcast that state prisoners being held in county jails (because of over- crowding in the state prisons) will be sent back to the state prisons, effective immediately. Due to the lack of a state budget!
This will add to the over-crowding. This over-crowding will endanger the guards at those institutions. A remedy?...hire more guards. No money with which to pay those guards.
What is Doyle doing? Why can't our state government get it together?
This is really getting pathetic. Poor leadership for the governers office. He needs to let go of his "get the bad guy" tax increases and move forward with real budget ideas.
Obviously Doyle doesn't know how to write a real budget.

It might be a "noble" gesture, but it seems to me that this is what the budget crisis amounts to. Too many legislators sitting on their duffs.
It's time to get this thing rockin'. Doyle (governor) seems be of the mindset that tax and spend is the way for Wisconsinites.
Doyle is beginning to sound more like Hitlery Clinton. Instead of take the profits from private concerns, Doyle just wants to tax it out of them.
The "sit-in" is just another do nothing gimmick. That's why we're in this position in the first place. Maybe he ought to spend his time coming up with resolutions instead of starting a blog.

Yep, we will all be affected one way or another, The workers just keep getting hit to hard. What is going to happen when the persons that work and give to the United Way needs the services and can't have that decuction taken anymore from their payroll check? and what about the food banks? If we can't give what we did last yr how is that going to effect the local goverment and churches?? Good grief how much can the adverage Joe give ??? And what about those that make good money and spent too much, they could keep on, but with new taxes it might be mute and they will go into forcloser or worse. I know my med insurance runs $600 per month with a $500 per person decuct every yr, I can't afford to help those that need it because I'm begining to be one of them. Raise the SALES tax and spreed it out to all of the people that come to WI for vacations and such.
