medical marijuana

I know that this will rattle some cages and get people talking..so here goes, i wanna know why medical marijuana hasnt been pushed at all in the midwest. for those that are uninformed, marijuana is NOT a drug, it is a plant, that grows out of the ground, that was created by God for our use. some people say that it doesn't have any medical credibility, for those i say this, i met an anorexic that was using med pot and she had it beaten, she said she smoked once in the morning and once in the mid-afternoon and she had gotten back up to a healthy weight and i thought that she just had this glow of happiness around her. then she showed me a picture of herself before she started using med-pot and it looked like a totally different person. It also helps insomniacs sleep, people who have rhemeutory arthritis get through their day, people who have bad knees or backs, shoulder problems or the really big one, muscular dystrophy. they say you dont know pain until you are looking at your fork wondering when some one else will have to feed you, or put your shirt on, at a rally in the twin cities i met a cop from california where med-pot is legal and she is on it and it allowed her to go back to work on the force!! It is legal in 11 states and all throughaout canada and there haven't been any problems except those caused by the DEA.

alot of people say that it is addicting and harmful, here are my favorite myths.
1. marijuana will kill your sperm count.
2. " " get you addicted to other drugs
3. " " cause lung cancer
4. " " cause birth defects
there are a bunch of others that i cant think of right now probaly because it is 3 am....but anyways lets address those issues.
1. the sperm count in men has been decreasing steadily for the past 50 years because of electronic and sound waves, such as the invention of the microwave, here is a question for you-do you know someone who has a cell phone in his pocket???
2. Marijuana is often unfairly called "the gateway drug" as in somthing that will lead to more serious stuff. this is partly true BECAUSE of prohibition, it puts marijuana in the same boat as crack, heroin, meth and all that other nasty stuff. Alcohol is actually the real gateway drug because it lowers standards and you might not remember doing a couple lines of coke when you wake up.
3. there has not been one case of lung cancer linked to marijauna usage ever.
4. If it really caused birth defects do you think california would legalize it for medicinal use?? just this past weekend i bought a half pound package of lead fishing sinkers and what did they say on the bottom of the package?? THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS LEAD, A SUBSTANCE KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS.

Back in the 30's they tried prohibition on alcohol, did it work? well yes, it did, less people drank alcohol when prohibition was in effect. but it also led the the corruption of nearly every law enforcement agency in the United States and the rise of Al Capone, the biggest bootlegger of all time. if you want to see what a country looks like with a more liberal feel towards certain things you only need to look at Amsterdam, look at the crime rate, auto accidents, ect. ect.

I hope that this was informative and got people thinking.....

Thanks for the food for thought...I think Joe Kennedy might have been a bigger bootlegger...but that's another topic. I agree with you on the points you made.
I must do more research on the subject.

even the culture surrounding it, check out the pothead magazines in your research like high times and cannabis culture. these are the best two mags i found with their credibility and accuracy of facts and information with medicinal use and current law changs and so on. the other magazines i have found have contradicting views and info and you almost wonder if the government is behind them just so they can find out more about the people who use it.....

Marijuana is kept illegal by the government, because it is a revenue generator for the justice/court system I wonder how many of the "powers that be" in government have considered how much money could be brought in by legalizing marijuana. Consider, it really doesn't cost much to grow the stuff, and the infrastructure for processing is already in place. The manufacturers of cigarettes could jump right in. Sell marijuana cigarettes already nicely rolled, 20 to a pack...think of some catchy names for their product.
The cost of processing might be low, and the product actually be quite cheap, but if the government had their way, they would tax the high heaven out of the stuff. The government coffers would be overflowing.
People might actually stop poisoning themselves with alcohol. There should be a skull and crossbones on booze bottle labels. Consider the physical damage done to people that use alcohol. Wet brains, kidney, and liver destruction, various heart conditions...the list goes on.

decriminalize and let doctors prescribe pot!

At the very least we should decriminalize pot ~ and we should let doctors prescribe pot whenever medicinally appropriate!

I don't know about it being a revenue producer. I doubt that pot makes money for the government. It costs the government huge sums to house prisoners. We're paying for a lot of people in prisons.

Here's an excerpt from the 40th Anniversary issue of Rolling Stone:

Quote:

...Are drugs overstated as a problem?

I don't think there is any doubt that the drug culture has shaped at least one major change, and that is the treatment of prisoners....

....[now] politicians brag about how many prisons they've built. We have a massive increase in prison occupancy, and the punishment for drug use has become the pre-eminent basis for overloading our prisons.
The interview subject...no less than the consensus greatest ex-President, Jimmy Carter.

Regards,
Keith

Yea, and I've also seen people that were stoned out of their minds looking up at a roof and wondering if they could fly.

Musta been doing something other than marijuana that made them think they could fly. Marijuana might have been in the mix, but sounds more like there were some manufactured chemicals in there. Probably that nasty booze, or some of Timothy Leary's favorite mix.
I still see keeping it illegal, or a criminal offense, as a revenue generator for the court system.
As I stated earlier, if the government took wanted tto make some real money on marijuana, it would be legalized, and processed under strict government regulations. That move would open new marketing ventures. Each "joint" would be of the same exact length, thickness, there would be the various "grades" of the product, depending on the choice of the consumer, and they'd all be packaged in a handy little "square" container...a "pack" if you will.
Another way to go about it is too go the "Oriental" route, and have a designated place to consume. In the West, we call them "Taverns", or "Bars, Clubs...etc. etc". In the Orient, they make reference to "Opium Dens"

Marijuana is kept illegal by the pharmaceutical companies. Drugs are a multi-billion dollar industry.

Imagine if we could grow our own medicine.

marijuana wow what a HOT topic this has been around for a very long time!!!

My thoughts, I should preface by saying I am highly addicted to nicotine. I have NOT had any sinnce october 15 1989 at 11:50 am.
Anthing resembling smoking would have me back on that stuff.
Like the cliche
One is too many and million is not enough.

My experiences with both substances tell me neither one is pure. You would be amazed at what is in a cigerette that is toxic yet the government does not want to control it because of the cost to monitior and beisdes that even if you took the bad stuff out a cigarette would that mean the goverenment would deem it safe? Not hardy It just does not make senese.
The same thing could go for marijuana how much monitoring and testing to ensure purity and what level of toxin would be considered acceptable?

Now the my big time opinion of marijuana. It can not be compared with substance such as beer because not everybody drinks beer to get drunk sometimes they just want a glass for the flavor and can continue unscathed or affected with the ability to function clearly.
That claim can not be made for marijuana for it's only purpose in using it is to get high.
The last time I had any all I did was 3 hits and I was flying and on my way to the doughnut shop.

I realize this will not change anyones thoughts on the topic but now I have had my say. Thank you this is what makes Ћ€βцßß₤€Я ЯØÇЌ
