Welcome-Marine, Commercial Fishing, Shipping & Shipbuil
Wisconsin, the land of many lakes. While we don't have the claim to fame as the purple people next door in regards to the number of lakes we have, Wisconsin does have something Minnesota doesn't have. Lake Michigan!
Settlers and traders were drawn to Wisconsin, partly because of trade with the Native Americans, partly because of the easy access to areas inland due to the many rivers and streams that flow into Lake Michigan.
Early Wisconsin life was witness to many industries that involved our waterways. Shipbuilding, commercial fishing, cruise lines, logging, bridge building, and many, many more. Occupations spanning ship owners, ship builders, masters, captains, engineers, fisherman, bridge tenders, lighthouse guards just to mention a few.
This section is a place to ask the questions or tell the stories of the old days on Wisconsin Lakes.
