Coy*o*tes have been sighted..

Village of Sussex—Coy*o*tes have been sighted in Sussex. Waukesha County Sheriff's Lt. Pete Chycinski said most of the sightings reported to the sheriff's Sussex Office the last few weeks came from west Sus*sex, but some came from the Pilgrim's Pride Crossing sub*di*vi*sion in east Sussex, as well.
While coyotes are nocturnal predators, he noted, some of the callers reported seeing coyotes during the day.

Chycinski said the coyotes have adapted to the new res*i*dential developments spring*ing up in Sussex, and that they are particularly attracted to the garbage people put out the night before it's picked up.

He warned against keeping pets, and not just small ones, outside. "Coyotes tend to pack," he said, "and can take on even the larger dogs."

Chycinski also warned against taking armed action against the predators, citing Village of Sussex ordinances prohibiting the discharge of firearms or bows and arrows within the village limits.

hmmm

Really something this got picked up from a front page article in the local paper recently.

We've been seeing coyotes around here for years. Of course, with the new McMansions around here ($650k to 2.1m) some wildlife sightings are now real news.

Regards,
Keith

Do people really call the sheriff when they see coyotes? Heck, I saw them all the time when it was dusk at about 5pm and I was driving home (I work in Sussex and take backroads to get home as much as possible). Haven't recently, but I think that's because the days are getting longer.

We've got either foxes or coyotes that live on the same hill as I do on the outskirts of Pewaukee, too (that's just SW of Sussex). I hear them all the time: Sounds for all the world like the Wild Hunt has chosen my front yard for a pit stop.

But people really call the sheriff when they see wild animals? Crazy.

We even see a few right in Milwaukee. I have seen them several times along the Milwaukee River Parkway.
