Orphans
Our first 5 babies arrived Sunday April 5th. By April 30th we had 67 coons.
To date (May 19th) another 53 coons had arrived
Total of 120 coons
Then we have taken in 4 baby fox, and 10 squirrels (2 mama's and babies)
Of the total 120 coons 6 of them have been mama coons with their babies (25).....25 less I have to feed with a bottle.
4 of these coons are last years babies and are preparing for release.... 2 have already left.
The rest are on bottles...... 85 adorable baby coons!!
I have 2 volunteers who have a total of 22 babies / on bottles at their homes ~ that helps a great deal.
So if you dont hear from me all week long, this is why....and I"m sure more coons (or something) will be coming in. If anything I'll catch up with everyone in Fall ~ LOL!!!
I'll stop in when I can.
Carol

Re: Orphans
Friday one of this seasons kids had to go to the ER Vet. He's a special needs coon...he was originally named Cash (His brother is Johnny). However he had a horrible accident and his name should have been changed to Stevie Wonder.
He has a right, frontal lobe injury...either from lack of oxygen or sever trauma when a mama coon shook the snot out of him and threw him up against some caging. He was passed out when I was able to get to him.....making his head croocked and wobbly. He also has short term memory loss and to him everything is new and special. He's always happy and see's everything thru rose colored glasses. Another part of his disability is he has no depth perception. He thinks he can walk on air.
He thought he could walk on air sometime Friday and when I was feeding he showed me he had a injured leg. He held it up and chattered at me. Could not walk on it and cried when I touched it. Broken leg! Off to the vet we go.
The car ride made him virtigo kick in and the poor guy was doing alligator rolls...motion sickness big time.
He was very sweet and well behaved at the vets office. Not one growl. He showed the vet his owie leg and let him look at it. Vet decided it was not busted after all, but a very bad soft tissue injury. He prescribed ketoprofen for pain ~ an anti-inflamitory and sent us home with .03cc. To be given at .01cc every day for 3 days.
Poor coon needs a padded room just to keep himself safe. He does not understand he will fall if there is nothing beneith his feet to stand on...he thinks he's superman!
His medacine was as expensive as his office visit. I wish us rehabbers would get discounts or assistance...but we dont.

Re: Orphans
Carol...the coons and all the needy animals are so lucky to have you in this business.
This coon should be a poster coon on flyers with a fundraiser in the works to help raise money. He is just so cute. Wish I could live by you to help with something like that.
Anyways, thanks for the story and please keep us posted as to how this little one is doing.

Re: Orphans
I'm in the works of building a new website for the coons. The WIFOLKS one is not working. I hate building websites because I have no idea what I"m doing. I have to do the easy stuff where it's just click and drag. I use all their templates etc.....
I'll have Cash's story there, along with my other speical needs coons.

Re: Orphans
Ok how about a few more cute coonie pictures.
They are in their prerelease cage.
The coon with the blue eyes we called Aqua. She had the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen on a coon.
