MANITOWOC — A great horned owl hatchling that fell nearly 60 feet from its nest likely didn't know to be afraid of rescuers who reunited the bird with its sibling Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery.
Cemetery workers Luke Hennessey and Ted Hacker found the approximately 3-week-old owl Monday afternoon in the middle of a cemetery road.
While Hennessey sought advice about what to do with the owl, Hacker kept a close eye on the bird.
"It kept looking at me and winking at me," Hacker said. "The baby was very calm. It kept looking up toward its nest."
On Tuesday morning, with the help of the Manitowoc Fire Department's ladder truck, Firefighter Brad Olivera and Wildlife of Wisconsin volunteer Susan Theys returned the bird to its home.
