Bald Eagles
I just finished reading a local story (Racine) of the many bald eagle sightings recently in Wisconsin, some in very urban areas. I was very surprised to see one myself last summer near a very busy shopping area.
I had seen them while vacationing in Eagle River (of all places  ) about 15 years ago.
Have any of you living below the Wausau area seen them around? Spotted a bald eagle lately?

I know it's not in Wisconsin,, but I travel regularly to Clinton Iowa, right on the Mississippi, and you can see 8-10 at a time fishing in the small pockets of open water.
I still remember that thrill of crossing that bridge between Iowa and Illinois on 30 and glancing over and seeing 3 of them perched in a tree right off the bridge. They have really made a comback in that area.
The first time you see one in the wild, in flight,,, you can understand why they are our national symbol.

I also know that this is NOT WI., but where I live in Navarre, FL. (FL. Panhandle area) our property is adjacent to 30 acres of "swampland (go figure!) and the Univercity Of NW FL. has a "Bald Eagle Project" located next to us! It's amazing! They got it off the ground in 2001 I believe, Hurricane Ivan took out their favorite nesting tree, but I was pleasently surprised to see them back in 2005, post-Ivan.
It CAN be a bit un-nerving, as I do have a little dog, 10# and at times when we take our walks together we will have a big Bald Eagle following us along our "route". He will even get as close as landing on our neighbor's gated entrance and peer down at us as we walk by. Talk about holding him close!!!
Neighbors have reported that their inside/outside cats do have a tendancy to "disappear" frequently. (just keep them inside folks, I say!) I find them to be so amazing and beautiful!!!

I live By the Wisconsin River just south of the Lake DuBay Dam. We see bald eagles all the time. We have some nesting here. Quite a sight to see them circling overhead.

Last summer they were flying the Rome Pond area where I live and I also spotted one in the North Lake area around the same time.
I was able to get a pretty good pic of it as well.

Bald Eagles sited in Kewaunee County
To my absolute joy the dh and I were just outside and looked out over the pines and a pair of immature bald eagles were circling. It did not take too long before one of them disappeared in what looked like a dive for food while the other was roosting in a large maple.
I have not seen eagles for years not since living in Oregon. Amazing site. Sure hope they nest in the area, Lake MI and the Kewaunee river is good fishing!!
Sweet spring is got to be here!
My time is off its 614pm

Yes!
I've had the pleasure of sighting at least one bald eagle on every canoe trip on the Black River, southwest of Black River Falls, Wisconsin.
On one occasion we spotted the eagle in the top of a dead tree and, leading the other canoes by a quarter mile, we silently glided in till the eagle lifted off directly above us. That was cool.
Regards,
Keith
