You have how many pets?
Hi all. I have been a member of The Bubbler for quite some time but never formally introduced myself. My name is Kelly and I live in Merrill. I am a married (20 years this Dec) mother of three. Dustin, my oldest will be 20 and is in his 2nd year of college. Kristin, my daughter is the middle child and just turned 17 this year and is a senior in high school. My youngest son, Cassidy is attending his first year at the high school as a freshman. The youngest two are active members in the Merrill Marching Jays for band and now is our busiest time of year. They are 4.0 honor roll kids and I couldn't be more proud as a parent.
As my title says, I am a HUGE animal lover. With many cats, dogs and fish....I am a busy busy lady. Man, I love my pets. Just as much as my kids. But I am sure my fellow pet lovers, you can understand that statement. All my pets were strays or rescues. I have a cat with feline diabetes that isn't cheap to treat to other cats that have behavioral issues. I wouldn't trade any one for any amount of money. Point being, they are happy, healthy, have their shots, been fixed and living out a life of their dreams.
I currently did a expansion that wasn't cheap to house more fish tanks for my home based business. I own and operate Kelly's Aquatic Rescue Services. My motto is "If it don't have a fin - we won't let it in." That was my husband's idea as we have WAY too many things here with fur. (I still don't know what the problem is with that haha) I currently have over 80+ tanks for more that 3500 gallons of water. I also am the largest angelfish breeder in the state and soon will be out marketing my product. I love the rescue part the best...that is where my heart and soul are.
I believe these types of pets are found to be readily disposable once their "flare" is gone. People don't think that this type of pet is worth saving once they don't want them anymore. There is no reason why there is a rescue for any other type of pet (cats, dogs, birds, reptiles) and not for fish. So please if you know anyone who needs to get rid of anything with a fin, tell them about me. I have a list growing strong of people who are looking for certain things. I haven't found a fish yet that I couldn't find a good home for.
Fish have personalities like no other. They are a little more high maintenance than other pets, but I feel they are well worth the extra trouble they may bring. Whether saltwater, freshwater, pondfish.....I take it all in and know all about them. If I cannot find them a home then they will stay here and live out their lives happy and well cared for. This is my way of doing my little part in saving unwanted pets.
By reading the forums I see that I am surrounded by people with big hearts for pets like me. That is great to know that there are so many others out there. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as this is a great site, even just to meet new people. Great work guys.
Kelly

Re: You have how many pets?
I run a small rescue and also am a licensed wildlife rehabber. There are always pets/animals here. I also run my own petsitting business.
To date this season, I have rehabbed 80 baby coons
I still have 8 in the house (one died today)
Still have 16 outside awaiting release
1 special needs coon ~ non releaseable
4 potbellied pigs / came in as rescue and surrender pigs
2 cats and many feral
5 domestic skunks
2 african greys
1 B & G macaw
1 sun conure
4 cockatiels
3 parakeets
1 bunny
1 dog
This whole list could change by next hour.......I never know what will come thru the doors next.
Besides the 80 coons I rehabbed this season, I also rehabbed and released 3 cottontails, a turkey and a malard, and 2 robins
Adopted out this year have been 2 ferrets, 3 bunnies, a potbellied pig, 11 cats/kittens, 5 goldfish, 3 rats, 4 cockatiels, 2 parakeets........oh and I just know I'm forgetting someone!

Re: You have how many pets?
I have
3 rescued fish
3 rescued cats
1 rescued dog
1 mouse, which was sorta kinda rescued. (It is a long story).
I think I will be soon adopting either a guinea pig or another dog....but still thinking about that. I am sure if I think long enough, someone I know will want to find a new home for something.
At least this week it probably won't be someone else's human child....I don't think. (I have been known to be unofficial foster mom too).
I guess I take in any kind of stray!

Well said! One of the pets I miss most is my ramshorn snail, Cornelius. He was so much fun to watch. He'd always get stuck in the tank's decorations and I'd rescue him with a tongs. I have a shrine to him in my house with snail-related knick knacks around his photo.
Now we have Stanley, a mean-tempered Oscar. He gets so excited at dinner time. Once he jumped out of the tank he was so riled up!
Nice to have you here, Kelly! We need a fish expert!

Re: You have how many pets?
Thanks! Expert, I dont' know....but if I don't know I know plenty of people to ask.
I have an albino oscar I took in as a rescue. Him and his buddy a blood parrot. I have become very attached to these two. The oscar has such a great personality and attitude, how can you not love them.

Re: You have how many pets?
By the way...the reason why this is in the welcome forum is because I was introducting myself. Instead of giving my name I put what I get asked all the time."you have how many pets?" It is cool to see that a lot of people have a variety. I appreciate all the warm welcome too.

Re: You have how many pets?
Kelley dear you blew me away on the intro. As most of the bubbler crew already knows I'm an animal lover. I send my blessings out to all the folks who love all critters.

Re: You have how many pets?
Thanks guys. Speaking on having a lot on my plate in a day.......today I spent my day cleaning til I couldn't clean anymore. With so many pets and things to take care of, it is also my turn to host the Central Wisconsin Aquarium Society's Sept meeting. Today and part of tomorrow is being spent cleaning and the rest of Friday and part of Saturday (have to work around the Homecoming Parade and game...as my two Marching Jays are in it). I am sooooooo tired. But have to keep plugging along.
But again, thanks everyone. It is so nice to get such warm welcomes.
Kelly

Re: You have how many pets?
Well right now we have one dog, an akita, named Anita. One betta name George. One shark, not sure his name. One angel fish, not sure his name either! One black cat named Angel. Two orange cats named Caillou and Garfield. And one gray Cat named purple (my two year old started calling her that, and it stuck). And we are looking for another dog.

Re: You have how many pets?
Yeah, I thought so to. His birds make all sort of police scanner sounds and they can sound like the voice coming thru the scanner with the static at times. Then other times they will talk a "normal" bird voice. It's funny to listen to them "dispatching"

Re: You have how many pets?
Wow, everyone has so many pets. I technically have two cats: Whisker Biscuit & Pearson. I had a St. Bernard when we lived in Cheyenne, WY, but had to give her to a good home when we moved back to Colorado. We moved into the in-laws basement, and getting rid of my dog (8 yrs. old), whom I had only had for a year, was one of the hardest things I ever did. At least now she is with someone who pampers her, grooming, lots of love, everything she could ever want. I hated the moment she got into someone else's vehicle, but the mother-in-law is very anti-dog, cat lover! I want to move to Wisconsin, and this time get a St. Bernard puppy. They are such a cool animal.

Re: You have how many pets?
I currently have a black/white tuxedo cat named Sebastian, an apricot Standard Poodle male who is my constant shadow named Moses, a lovely and lively black Lab lady named Canada, and 12 Labradoodle pups that are just about a month old. I'm SO enjoying these pups! I've raised german Shpherds and rotties in the past but have never seen pups so smart and able to learn this young before.
Having taken an early retirement, my pets keep my days filled with activity and love. Can't ask for more than that!

Re: You have how many pets?
I know Keith, I never realized that I had that many. I told you to watch out once I could post. Sure wasn't cool when I tried so many times but never got through. I am interested, so thank you for keeping me in mind. Did you see all my cats in the post Introduce your Cats?
