Racinian looking north :)

Hello everyone. New here! Nice site, and I'm looking forward to exploring it more. Been in Racine almost my whole life, about 34 years total and 6 years in Union Grove.

Looking to move north and am in the process of researching my options, and found this place. I've heard of it before, just never stopped in.

Looking forward to meeting some of you and making some buddies

Wow, thanks for the welcome!

pk, up until a few years ago, I had many relatives in Keno, but they mostly moved south lol. My great grandparents used to own Klein's bakery in Kenosha, but that's going back quite a few years! O&H rocks I agree. I ride through Kenosha on my bike a lot, and love the lake front there.

For most of my life I've wanted to move "up north" maybe even into Michigan, I don't know. It seems once you are locked into the city with a job, it's so hard to get out, not knowing how you will make a living in another place. I would have no problem selling my house and winging it, but my family reels me back in to reality, so for now I am staying put. City living has it's advantages, but I dream of living with some space I guess. If anyone (greenbean2) has a "success story" in fleeing the city...lemme hear it! Isn't the fishing any good in Two Rivers?

Just think real carefully before moving anywhere unless your family wants to give it a try also. It's a big difference from the city to 'up north'.

I only caution you since years ago someone I know ended up moving from the city she loved to 'up north' because her husband wanted to do it. Period. She has been so unhappy about the move even now many years later. Her dream is to come back down this way where she thinks life is all about. But then I know others that have made the move and since the rest of the family wanted to also it turned out great.

But I'm sure everyone on the forums will give you lots of ideas as to the best places to live in Wisconsin. I for one will say: KENOSHA since I love it here.

Shocked, the best thing about leaving Racine and moving north is the crime is so much less up here. No gangs, no drive-bys, no rapes, noone killing you for your shoes or wearing a certain color...things like that. The fishing here is great for salmon and trout on the big lake but im more of an inland fisherman and rarely get out on the big lake. There are some decent lakes up here dont get me wrong, but nothing like what Racine has. I had a job down there working at a factory on the south side for many years before i ran my own bait and tackle store. Thats another thing i miss! I dont regret moving this way one bit but i sure miss not being as close to my family. 2 hours is farther than 10 minutes.

I moved from Green Bay to Mosinee. (west)
The locals here call it North but I am west of GB.
I am a native of GB (38 years) and loved the inner city but now that I live on 10+ acres I don't think I could live in the city again and I have only been here for 10 months. I still own my home in GB but would like to sell it soon.

Wausau is very similar to Green Bay but the scenery is much better by far.
Mosinee is just outside of Wausau by 12 miles.
Little historic Wisconsin town in the middle of Wisconsin.
The paper mill smell is easy to get use because I am on the edge of town and don't smell it except when I go into town. (no big deal)
The people here are very friendly but travel makes living a little more expensive. There are not gas stations and drug stores every three blocks.
Crime is about the same but not a big problem as a whole.
Cost of living is a little higher here but well worth it.
I love the North and plan to retire north of here someday.

Good luck shockedonlooker with your endeavors in the great North of Wisconsin!

Don't look so shocked! We're all from wisconsin.
I have about the same dream of moving further from town. But I live on the outskirts already; and Eau Claire isn't quite the sprawling metropolis as Racine.
Anyway, from one newbie to another: Welcome to the Bubbler.
