Greets from Janesville/Milton

I am a 44 year old guy who lives with 2 women and 6 cats. HELP!

I repair computers, and have lived in this area all my life. (I know how Janesville got it's name and worked in this community for years). I see there are others here in town, so, howdy neigbors! And a Hey There to those surrounding us.

I've lived and worked in Footville, Elkhorn, Beloit, Albion, Edgerton, Milton and know some folks. Those I do not know, my main squeeze Diane or good friend Susan does, so who knows, we might know each other somehow. I helped build the Boys and Girls club float for a parade one year, and covered a parade with JATV-12 another year. Been in Green Beret marching band, Voyaguers Drum Corps, scouts, various bands in my past, model rocket club, a CB club, and more... so I am direct product of our area and social climate one would think.

I've enjoyed performing magic, doing photography, boating, bicycling, hiking, camping, computing; web design, programming, hardware, servers, you know, the whole power-user/geek thing.

I enjoy all kinds of music, and yes, even some Rap, but prefer rock (Am a Rush fan fo sure). I have partied with some good bands like Jackyl and Great Sideshow, had happy birthday sang tome by a Bass Singer who worked with Loretta Lynn for 9 years and was on hee Haw regularly named Ray who now works in Branson MO, met and performed for Richard Sterbing, the Bass singer of the Oak Ridge Boys (My Mom got to meet him, too, AND go on stage very couragously), and I really like roadies blaring the music out in my Chevy Cheyenne.

I am AGAINST the cult, I mean Club heh, called A.A. (see my journal here on the Bubbler for more) and FOR animals, with a fondness for felines, obviously. (Wow 6 cats, LOL, all with thier own personality traits. The danger is new addition Little Bear, who is the only Male now, and Monday we seek to get him fixed).

Right now I am seeking education so I may become certified in order to land a decent job. I ran my own PC Repair biz (And still do repairs, so hey, if you need DECENT and REAL assistance lemme know) but want a more 9-5 type instead of the 24-7 stress, LOL.

SOooooo.... that's me, in a few nutshells. Right now I should get back to doing more graphic ad design for a local newspaper though, because the owner really needs my help. But I'd really love to hear from anyone so say hello anytime!

Tom (aka TomyRay)

Great intro TommyRay! Welcome!

Welcome to theBubbler, TommyRay!

That's the kind of intro I really enjoy!

You got me from the headline - and the addition of the poll was a great touch.

It's a pleasure to meet you, and I really hope to see you here often.

Welcome.

Regards,
keith

I went to Beloit College, which means I spent a fair amount of time on the weekends in downtown Janesville

Is the movie theatre with the red plush seats and the old-style foyer still open? I forget what it's called. I think it might have been the only theatre in downtown when we were there, though.

Great to have you aboard.

Response and Janesville Theatres

THANK YOU for the awesome reply, Keith! Kinda makes one wanna write more. In fact, I hafta make a reply about the theatre to Crys here, now, so...

Yeah, Crys, sorry to say, the theatre is no longer in operation. It is still THERE, just closed for years as far as I know. Which is really too bad. I mean, well, all the good ol' theatres are vanishing. For example...

Outdoor Theatres. Janesville had TWO of them. One on the north side of town off of Milton Ave (Why 26) near Hwy 14 wnere Applebees and Woodmans is now, and one on the south side off of Hwy 51 where the trailer park near Isebella Queen called "Midcity Outdoor".

The sad thing is, even if they WERE open yet, the experience changes. I took my GF to Monroe (nearest outdoor in operation I know of) and found they were playing a Hip-Hop feature of some kind.

So the NEXT weekend, I try to take her and our roomate camping. Seems camping is a lost art. Now the campgrounds are all basically RV Trailer Parks, and one of them was blaring Hip-Hop music for some kind of Halloween celebration. :x

So, here I am feeling like the Fuddy-Duddy of the millenium with such thoughts as revering the old days and disliking the infiltration of younguns with loud music. Hmmmm... History is repeating it seems, much as it did I am sure with my father. :!:

But I digress here. Anyways, yeah, the days of the plush seated theatre seems to be passed and past, sorry to say. Good thing we humans last a little bit longer than our glory days, though, cause I wanna live forever! LOL!!

Oh no!! That theatre is where I had my first date with my current husband. We saw Braveheart about six times there. It's also the first place I ever took my son to a movie theatre.

Good place to camp is Dells Timberland in the Dells. I'm not just saying that because I'm their webmaster We went camping there early this last summer and had a really good experience all around.

There's still a great movie theatre just down the road from me in Pewaukee, called Capitol Cinemas (because they're on Capitol Dr., of course... ). They're not the old type theatre, but they've got nice comfortable seats with arm rests that fold up. Same idea, just not as pretty.

I wish I could just buy that old theatre and open it back up. It was such a nice place; I can't understand how they wouldn't get enough business to keep it open.

What about Ted's comic and game store just down the road from the theatre? Is that still open? I bought far more dice, netrunner and Vampire cards, and comics there than I really care to detail

See, now _I_ am getting nostalgic.
