Sneak Peek at a new feature-Events Calendar
Well, the source for our old calendar information is having some issues, so we've decided to create our own calendar, filled with submissions from our members.
We need some people to "play" with our new calendar to make sure we have all the bugs worked out.
Here is the URL:
http://thebubbler.com/modules.php?name=Calendar
Please add some test events and let us know what you think.
You may post any comments / thoughts / bugs / rants / suggestions or whatever in this thread.
We have some extra features, such as "Search" planned for the future. Right now our main goal is getting a replacement calendar up as soon as possible.
We will be emptying the calendar before it goes live, so don't spend a lot of time adding "real" events. (Just make sure you watch your language in your test events  )
Thanks much!

Put some stuff on the calendar
like, my tarded hubby's birthday, my son's birthday, and my son has surgery - i just used real stuff 'because i didn't know what to put - LoL
Okay, question, did the calendar come pre-filled-in with certain things? Like holidays and such? If so, I love wherever you got these calendars from. I won't have to go in and fill in all the pagan Sabbats - hehehe. Already listed. And if someone here did it, you rock.

Actually, I coded this calendar from scratch. I had a list of various special days and if anyone else in the office knew what they were I added them.
If anyone has another day that they think should be listed, let me know and we'll consider adding it.

Andy,
If I give you a list of the Sabbat days, will you add them all in? There are 8 altogether. If I was the only one here, I wouldn't worry about it, but as I know for a fact that I'm not, and suspect there's more than just me and the one other here I've been in contact with, it would be awesome if you could have the all on.
Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? (I'm batting my eyelids at you here, come on now!!)
February 2 - Imbolc / Candlemas
March 20 - Ostara / Spring Equinox (Also Christian Palm Sunday)
May 1 - Beltaine / May Day
June 21 - Midsummer / Litha / Summer Solstice
August 1 - Lammas / Lughnasadh
September 22 - Mabon / Autumn Equinox
October 31 - Samhain / Halloween
December 21 - Yule / Winter Solstice
And that's it.

No, you're not the only one
They're all there. The Equinoxes and Solstices say "First day of" and the season, but they're all there 8)

just a few
Super idea! Can not wait to see the final version. Glad to know I can offer some ideas.
OK, here we go. Just a few comments off the top of my head as I first glance at your pioneering work - just ideas:
-set off the month (aka: January, February) titles on the top of the form (right below: theBubbler.com Event Calendar) - bold, increase font, maybe a fun image word
-make link of each entered event a Javascript or other smaller popup to view the details of the event. Consider making it a rollover feature, but with so many events to be listed, this would get messy.
-each Wednesday's Watercooler News links could include a preview list of upcoming site of the week, announced items, featured communities or sites.
-set off the official "theBubbler" items from the common member entered items. Possibly with an icon or larger font.
-to the left of the dropdown lists (at the top of the form), include a left pointing arrow or tiny month calendar with link to the "previous" month. Same for the right side listing "next" month.
That's all I have at first glance.

That's a good idea, the month and year really don't stand out very much

I originally had the calendar links as pop up windows, but realized it wouldn't work with our built in Tell-A-Friend, so the pop-ups got scrapped

We have an archive of past issues of the Water Cooler News planned for the site. http://www.thebubbler.com/wcn.html I'm going link the WCN on the calendar to the cooresponding issue, if it is out yet.

I'll see what I can do here. I'm trying to keep the calendar fairly clean and uncluttered, but yeah, the member submitted stuff should look different.

I like that, I'll add it.
Thanks for all the great ideas

What were you doing when you got that error message?
Could you try to get it again and copy / paste it into a reply?
[Edit] Nevermind, found and fixed the problem.

The final version of the calendar is now live.
I'll leave this thread open, in case anyone has some more suggestions.
I'm still planning on doing a search feature, so you don't need to suggest that

I would like to report incorrect content at:
http://www.thebubbler.com/modules.ph...event&event=36
The content was :
This item I added to the calendar was entered on Feb 14th, but is also listed on that date - when we really only wanted to list it on June 18th. When it was set up, the start and stop date seemed to me like the dates of which it would appear on the calendar and not the actual (start) date for the event.
