chat room?
Private messages are great. But I was wondering if you have a chat room on here..or plan to have one in the near future? It's a great way to get to know each other.
thanks,
pk

There's been a lot of chatter because this is high on user lists of suggestions but we haven't implemented it. I've received a lot of messages asking why, so I'll just answer everyone here:
Right now there are no plans for a chat room. A) We would have to write the programming to make it function with all the customization of the programming on the rest of the site which we B) do not have the manpower for (you got me, and me, and me, trying to sandwich several hours of daily maintenance of this site in between my 60+ hrs/wk of client work, and mweinand, who has made a lot of code fixes and changes on the admin side that make my life a lot easier, but who also has other work to juggle), nor c) do we have the resources to monitor it 24/7, which would be necessary to maintain our strict non-spam/scam and family-friendly policies.
I agree, I think it's a great idea. I think it would get a lot of use. We just don't have the capability of implementing it with the current programming. When we move to a different program in the next year or so, we plan on revisiting the idea. However, my list of planned improvements/fixes/changes is 163 pages long right now (I'm not exaggerating here!!!)
We do appreciate the suggestions, and I'm not trying to tell you to stop suggesting things! Far from it! I LOVE seeing suggestions and feedback from users! Just be aware that whether or not we act on them is entirely dependent on the resources we have available.

Chatroom
exellent...keep up the good work, and try not to rush yourself. This forum is alot of fun. Although a chatroom would be entertaining, and a good way to commune, posting on various topic threads can also get your point across.
Thank You for your efforts, and givem hell .

Thanks...
Thanks for the good words Brain and pk!
We'd love to have chat. Besides the time to do it that Crys mentioned, we're very concerned about security and of course the ongoing monitoring of chat. We'd probably give our moderators some kind of chat admin priveleges (sp?) and ask them to help mod the chat.
It will be here sooner or later...a question of when, not if.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
Regards,
Keith

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
Chat Room in the future would be neat, but I've seen some off beat topics on them so I prefer the IM rather to the chats. Thanks Crys and Keith for the update.

That's a really old post you're replying to. There's been a chat room since the new software went live. You can get to it via one of the left sidebar boxes.

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
There is so much new cool stuff, hard to find it all! I just realized where to change the default theme to stay on all the time.
I laugh every time I see an old post resurrected. More often than not, one I haven't see so I always have to check the date.
We are working on the tutorials and other help guides as we go. Keep checking the help link at the top of the page. We will add new helps and FAQs up there.
Keep telling us what you find neat and what you would like to see. We love the feedback!

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
Guess the joke was on me, didn't see the date.
Could we maybe have a tab to document old news? So members don't get embarrassed when they resurrect old topics.

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
There is a setting in the profile section that you can set to show only posts of a certain date or later. I have mine set to 2 months. You can also select what you want to see in each forum individually by going to the bottom of the forum category. There is a section there to show only posts X period of time old.
Hope that helps. (Don't worry AJE. I did the same thing)

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
Do keep in mind that that cutoff refers to the last reply, not the original post date, so you might still answer an old post if someone else answers it first.

Re: Private Messaging at theBubbler.com
Loads of new features at the new 'theBubbler'. Chat really gets rolling, when there is more than one chatter in the room!
