Question Why close posts?

I just went to post on hello new member and found it was closed. This isn't the first time that's happened. I don't see anything in the thread that would require it to be closed. No controversy at at all. So I'm curious why this and other posts like it were closed. My own intro post was closed as well. Very odd.

Michelle

Re: Why close posts?

Good Question.
It looks like Keith closed them. (Keith is the owner of the board). He may have a policy about the Welcome threads that I am unaware of.

I will ask him today and get back to you.

I know some posts are closed by request of the original poster.
Some posts might be closed because there is another similar thread going at the same time.

Re: Why close posts?

Dear Michelle,

Yes it was an administrative policy on Keith's part to close intro posts at approximately 30-45 days. He feels after that time, people are well introduced and are posting elsewhere, there is no need to continue to have the thread open.

If there is something that was brought up in a welcome message that you think requires further discussion, feel free to start a new thread in the appropriate forum or private message that individual.

Thanks for asking. Now I know too.

On a side note, we also close posts because people requested to have them closed, or the topic has drifted to another forum or thread on the site. We don't like to have the same topic going in multiple locations if we can help it. These types of closing doesn't happen very often though.

Hope that helps explain.

Yes, Links and I spoke about this.

After a month-and-a-half or so, it would seem funny to be welcoming someone as though they were new. If someone posted to six month old threads, it would make it harder to find the actual new introductions to welcome people to the board.

Thanks for asking.

Regards,
Keith

Re: Why close posts?

Thanks for the response. Sorry I'm only getting here sporadically lately. Does closing them bump them up? The reason I asked this was because there was a bunch of posts at the top of the forum and I realized they were closed when I tried to comment on one.

Anyway, I guess I can understand the policy since you have plenty of posts around here. I wouldn't dare close a post on my site. I'm too desperate for posts to block someone who wants to say something, even if it's an old thread. LOL!

Michelle
