Why GMT?
I'm curious why the forums are set to GMT. Given the local focus, why not set it to central? It would make it easier to see new posts when I scan down the forum list.

Great Question! Sorry I dont have the answer. I think I"m remembering correctly when I say that someone once told me how to change my time settings here....but I could never figure it out.

yep...
Yep. We've had nothing but problems with the time-keeping functions of these boards.
GMT-6 is the way to post your time, but no guarantees.
The new TheBubbler.com forums will have default CST (GMT-6) times built in!
Regards,
Keith

Well, in that case, I guess I'll just deal with it until the new software comes.

My time is always off. I did reset it one time and it worked for a short time and then next thing I knew I was all off again.
I just learned to ignore it.

Even though it was only 12:03 a.m when I posted the last comment I looked and it shows: Posted: Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:57 am lol as you can see it is clearly off tonight.

Somewhere the wrong timezone is hard coded into the code. I can't find it though. Everything looks like it's taking the current time from the server, but the server's time is set correctly... except that this site (and only this site on this server, not the other sites on this server) sometimes randomly seems to think the server's time is set to GMT. The server's right. The options in the admin section are all correct, but every so often theBubbler thinks it's in Greenwich. I do expect the problem to go away when we leave these old forums for the new software.

After I posted this, I discovered there's a link to see all new posts that I hadn't noticed before. So that helps. The reason I was asking about the time is that I had been scanning the last post date of all the forums to try and see if there was anything new and having the time off made that harder. I'll just use the link now that I know it's there.
Thanks,
Michelle

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. I've tried it several times and it never has any results, even when there are new posts. So it's back to scanning the forums, I guess.

Every once in awhile you can find the 'quick stats' on the left hand side of each page with the recent forum topics. Most of the time it has the Top 10 Classified Posters there but I keep an eye out for the topics. When I see it I just use my back button and go back to it for awhile to catch all the new topic comments. Kinda a generic way of having to do it but it works. I have noticed the tabs at the top that you can click on and tried that way a few time but it doesn't seem to change much for me either.
Hopefully the new website will have a quick stat on the side of each page that will show when a new comment shows up. That would be great!
I think I put that in the suggestions from the mods so hopefully it will be there.

What I do on my site is have a "what's new" link that lists everything in reverse chronological order of last update. It makes it easy for me to keep track of new stuff. I'd love to see something like that here.

Works only the first time you load any forum page. After that the forum thinks none of the pages are "new" any more since you've been on the forums.
Good tip: Scan for "unanswered" and engage conversation in those.

Keith

Kind of think the new theBubbler will have that, pk.
We'll have to make sure it does during beta testing, as you suggested.
Besides that, you'll be able to 'subscribe' to threads. On your 'Control Panel' you'll you can create folders, 'mark as read', see if there are new replies, etc.
Regards,
Keith
