“Medieval Faire” comes to Main Street Station

Viroqua’s Main Street Station public market will host its first annual Medieval Faire on Saturday, February 25th from 9 am to 5 pm.
The event is co-sponsored by the Society for Creative Anachronism (anachronism: something occurring out of its proper time). Families with children especially will be in for a treat when they see knights in armor fighting with sword and spear and ladies and gentlemen dressed in medieval garb. Not to worry – the swords are specially made for this type of mock-fighting.
There will be exhibits of various arts that were popular in the Middle Ages, such as illumination, calligraphy, embroidery, bookmaking, armoring and leatherwork. You can try your hand at writing with a quill or finger-loop braiding. Wandering poets and bards on bagpipe, drum and hurdy-gurdy will grace the Main Street Station during the day. And Viroqua’s own belly dance troupe, Naga Salah, will perform at 11 am and 1 pm. Otherwise, visit at any time during the day – there are no time schedules, just strolling spontaneous performances and demonstrations.
This event is presented in part by the Shire of Rokeclif, Southwestern Wisconsin’s chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a worldwide organization which re-creates the historical period between the ages of 500 and 1603 A.D. Our Shire is part of a region known as The Kingdom of Northshield. For more information on either the Shire or the SCA, please visit

Local arts and crafts vendors as well as those from out of state will be showcasing their unique merchandise at the Market on this special day.
The Meat-ing Place Café, located in Main Street Station, will be open for business all day and will feature a special beef/mushroom stew and beef stroganoff in addition to their regular delicious fare.
The VIVA Gallery has moved into its own store in Main Street Station. The gallery opens its new doors on February 15th in the former La de Da space and will be open for business from 10 am to 4 pm.
Look for an exciting day at Main Street Station: merchants, food, music, shopping and demonstrations! Admission is free!
