You've got to love the spirit of the people behind Viroqua's Main Street Station - including that of MainStreetStation, a great citizen of our online community at theBubbler.com. See Tony M, aka MainStreetStation at http://www.thebubbler.com/member/mainstreetstation.html
I hope to get a vendor stand for theBubbler.com soon, preferably during a festival weekend!
Thanks for checking us out. Main Street Station, a downtown public market in Viroqua, WI, really is a special place. Our sincere hope is that others find it as amazing as we have.
I mean, how often can we interact with a public market?? We all know what a public market is, but it is not a term frequently mentioned anymore. Each time I say it, an intriguing image of people throwing fish comes to mind . We don't often have flying fish, but we do have a charming and warm space, filled with local artisans, craftspeople and growers, selling their passion in our new indoor town plaza.
The market is more than just a place to shop and sell, it is also a space to connect with people again. As you journey through the big red doors, through the brick alleyway into the main market area, it is like going back in time. The inside is like an old-world town square, complete with benches, streetlamps and, of course, a beautiful fountain. And better than a museum scene, the shops are real, and so are the unbelievable treasures for sale! And whether you shop or not, you will enjoy just hanging out at a bistro table, watching people stroll by - or maybe striking up a conversation. The chance meetings in the market that occur are incredible (or are they really chance? ).
We welcome everyone to journey to southwest Wisconsin and visit our public market. It will likely leave a pleasant glow in your soul. It certainly has for us.

Organic Vally, Nation's Largest Organic Farmer's Co-Op
Organic Valley, the largest independent organic farmers' co-op in the nation, has lured people interested in alternative agriculture to this place. Some claim that our county has the most organic farmers per capita in the nation, and it's easy to believe. You can find fresh, local organics at the farmers' market and the food co-op (which will open a big new store this summer); we buy milk, eggs, and produce right off the farm.
The Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School, one of the only rural Waldorf schools in the country (and the first Wisconsin school to offer an organic hot lunch), will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year. I didn't know much about the 85-year-old Waldorf curriculum before I moved here, but I knew the school attracted a lot of people like me who want their lives to harbor more meaning and passion than the American imperative to "work, buy, consume, die." I've grown to value the school's commitment to art and creativity, and to what Waldorf pedagogy calls "the whole child" -- physical, spiritual, and intellectual.
The article the Keith posted, the organizations mentioned, and many other, and the collective energy of Viroqua and SW Wisconsin flow together creating a very healing and powerful, yet still undisturbed region of our fine country.
Your Moderator is one of Vernon County's finest...
http://macastat.com/ is the new web site of MainStreetStation, a great member of theBubbler.com and the Moderator for Vernon County and a couple of other Forum categories.
I'm taking the liberty of promoting this Member - real name: Dr. Tony Macasaet - and his Main Street Station project in Viroqua because our Moderators are cautioned against too much self-promotion - yet they're all deserving of much attention.
Our Members, and particularly our Moderators, inspire me. Dr. Tony Macasaet is certainly one of Vernon County's - and the Badger State's - finest!
Check out Tony's sites yourself! He's a 21st Century Renaissance Man!
We're hoping theBubbler's next outing (we just did our first, a campout this last weekend at Dells TimberLand which was a hoot!) will likely be at Tony's Main Street Station in Viroqua!
Refreshing this topic for all those new members in this county.
We want to hear what your county has to offer.
This is also a great way to find new places to visit for those who enjoy one to two day getaways.
