This is a good question Carol. I have tried to find a good one and can't find one either. Most are just trial offers or they ask for money. I found one that said it was all free but later before they actually let you use it you had to pay. Go figure.
I'm sure there are plenty of good ones but I am not finding them.
Anyone?

Is there a good, but free watermark program out there?
I've tried a few and they all include their own watermark after you add yours.
Their watermark is ususally the program name. I dont want that.
Just my watermark is fine
If you are using Ms Word go to Format-Background Printing watermarks and select on or create one in MS Paint.
Most MS products have a feature to ad a watermak just go help and search for Watermark.
another quick and dirty way is to use MS paint and make your own just make the color very faint , save as a jpg and again go to background and add your created watermark. You may try several times until you get the desired size, effects, looks and faintness in your document.
In photoeditiing you simply add a layer make your watermark there. Just remeber to save a copy in the editor format to maitain seperate layers and a copy in jpg/pgn/whatever extension you want for the watermarked photo.
...Them's got ears, let them hear
Them's got eyes, let them see
Turn your eyes to the lord of the skies
Take this airline plane
It'll take you home again
I'm not too familiar with any programs that are free, I personally use Photoshop for my watermarking, but that's not always an option for most people.
I did a little research to answer this question, and I always thought that Flickr offered a watermarking ability, so I did a test. I couldn't find anything obvious that says Watermark, but what I did find is that Flickr has partnered with something called Picnik and it is what appears to be a very powerful online photo editing tool. And if you look through the various tabs and options, they do have the ability to add text to your image. Which can be manipulated to be a watermark. And once it's saved the text and the image are flattened, and anyone who downloads it or links to it, or saves it in anyway will get the text watermark along with it...
And if you are not interested in posting on Flickr, I recommend utilizing their services, and you can always delete the photos after you've saved it....
Play around with it, it looks fun...
And of course for all you Google fans, you can always try using Picasa, which past experience tells me is a pretty powerful tool, and it's not associated with photo sharing like Flickr is. It's worth a try.
Both options seem to be just as powerful as Photoshop is when it comes to manipulating your photos, and Picnik even has the ability to adjust curves and levels. And what's nice about Picasa is that it works with your photos that were taken in the RAW setting, so you can manipulate the exposure levels and contrast levels as well.

This has been quite the challenge..... I will give this a try and see how I like it. I picked up Adobe Photoshop CS3 and I'm LOST...... I just want to tag my name to my widlife photos, but am finding this to be quite the challenge.

Thanks for the info...I'll check these out as well. When using your photo shop did you have to First Register with Digimarc Corp and pay more $$$$???
That is what HELP is telling me to do in Photoshop. More money
I also have MS Publisher 2007 and can't seem to locate a watermark there, but am told there is one.

ARGH!! I need someone to come over here and give me hands on lessons how to use these programs...
I am 100% lost. Can't do a darn thing with any of them
My latest is FastStone Photo Resizer......I can get the pic there, but after that can't figure out what to do next and their help does not help
Ok I'll try to help.
In the left box find the pictures you want to add text or a watermark to.
Highlight the photos by holding down your Ctrl button and left click each photo you want.
Next click the add button so the pictures will move over to the Input List box.
So far so good
Now what would you like to do, add a text watermark or an image watermark?
On the right bottom of the program look for ( Use Advanced Options Resize ) Click the little box and then you'll see ( Advanced Options, click on that )
A new box will open. click on Text or Watermark. Then you'll see a ( Add Text or Add Watermark on the left, click the box and now the fun part starts.
When your done with your copyright info just click on the Ok button on the bottom.
The image watermark is done the same way, find where your image watermark is located and select it, then click the ok button.
After you click on the Ok button you'll return to the main screen. On the right look for the ( Output Folder ) click on the select button and find where you would like to save your watermarked image(s)
After that click on the Convert button. When the program is done go to the folder where you saved your photos and see the results. If your happy then your done. If not then just tweak your watermark till your happy.
If your still having problems let me know. After you figure out how to use this program then it becomes real easy.
