Carol,

As far as I know, Acrobat is the only thing that will create PDF's. It's their thing.

Microsoft word 2003 and above can export a document to pdf.
OpenOffice.org text writer will also export an adobe pdf. There are probably others or a utility that can also translate a document into pdf format. I like OpenOffice.org as it is FREE!!

But once exported you can not edit unless you have the full blown acrobat. Always keep a copy in the native document form so you can edit and re-export.

Re: Program for converting doc to PDF

There are many free pdf creators out there.

The one i use is PDFCreator. It from any windows programs.

It works like a printer. For example if you wanted to create a pdf out of this page, you would select print and instead of selecting your regular printer you select the PDF creator from your print menu.

It is a free download from sourceforge.

SourceForge.net: PDFCreator

Re: Program for converting doc to PDF

Software has an excellent program that allows you to "Print" to a PDF output. You can use the demo version with the "nag" screens without limit, or spend 49.95 and lose the nag screens. My work places uses this instead of adobe.

Re: Program for converting doc to PDF

There is a plugin for Word that lets you save as PDF. Otherwise you can get PDFWriter which acts as a fake printer that saves PDF files.
