PC is dead, I need help

I'm lost in a quandry
I don't know what to do
my pc don't work
I'm feeling blue
it won't boot-up
no message on the screen
all is black,nothing is seen
the mother board's led is as green as can be
the hard drives and cd lights are on for me to see
I've switched hard drives and it stays the same
I don't know what to do,I'm going insane
My first thought was power supply
but all lights are on
still no video, what is going on
but then there was no signal
indicating all is ok
no power on self test
what does that say
do I change the power supply
with it's tangled wires in array
or should I replace the the video card
with a new one today
stoney rohde

So what would you do if you had no video in your pc at boot-up?
All LEDs are light, so I think that is telling me the power supply is ok
but I don not hear the beeps if the power on self test worked.
So here is how it all began, first my cursor locked-up. In the past that was telling me I lost connect as I have a wireless mouse, so I changed the batteries and hit the re-connect buttons and nothing. I tried three fingering to reboot and nothing happen so I did the same with the wireless keyboard , changing batteries and reconnecting. Still nothing. I manually re-booted and everything came up but within seconds of moving the cursor it all locked up.
I rebooted several times and then it all went black. I thought perhaps the usb drivers were messed up so I replaced my mouse and keyboard with a regualar wired set and rebooted. Nothing. I then replaced the hard drive and retried but still nothing. I also replaced the clock battery and nothing changed. I tried booting up with a start-up floppy and still no go.

Does anyone know what the isse is?
My current thoughts are to go out after work and get a cheapie video card so I can eliminate the possiblity that it is my video card. I hate buying something I will not use ultimately.
What do you think?
Please help.
Thank You

Just a thought, although not one you want to hear, is the motherboard. I had a very similar problem a couple years ago. I tried everything until it finally came down to changing the motherboard.

Hope that helps, but I also hope that isn't it. I went through alot before I narrowed it down. I did the work myself, but it was still a headache.

I'm lucky in that I had parts to interchange so I didn't have to buy alot, but I did spend money to figure it out. Sucks.

Mark

hey Mark
I went the same path as you and have narrowed down the issue to the motherboard. This sucks because 1.) I will ned to buy a new one 2. ) they do not make this motherboard anymore.
3.) changing the motherboard/processor means reloading everything.
3a.) getting a new motherboard means getting a new processor, new ram, and the new style video card pci express. I gues it means getting a new pc!!!!!!!!!!!

4.) IT IS TAX TIME AND I PROBABLY OWE THE IRS MONEY.

5.) the tax time thing means I should work on them not a pc

Wow, that sucks. I was hoping that wasn't it. For that money, I'd just buy a new one. But that's me. I'm a little strange also in that I wouldn't buy anything but a laptop now. You can get a decent laptop fairly reasonably. Depends on what you're looking for though.

I know it sucks, but nothing I can do. The cost is for a new sytem less the case. I will need a new power supply too but hey it is all on hold.
The laptop seems like the way to go but laptops are always a little behind desktops and much more restricting in building my own.
They are portable however.

well back to work

What type of processor do you have? I can get some older motherboards really cheapthrough my distributors, but need to knw what you are looking for specifically. May save you some bucks for the time being, if need be.

Yeah, thats an old one. I looked through the socket A's in my distributors' old stock lists, and the only compatible chipsets are on the 754 socket. I will make some calls on monday to the ones that do not have web lists and will PM you f I find anything.

You might want to slam a gig of memory in, as long as you have the cover open. RAM is cheap...a gig might end up costing a 'C' note, including shipping and handling. Makes alot of difference in the performance of your PC.
Anyhow, Givem' Hell!
