Want to see the future? From Apple....
I was blown away by the keynote speech of Apple CEO Steve Jobs at this year's MacWorld.
See the speech at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf07/.
For an overview of the phone that could be to cell phones what the iPod is to personal digital music players, see http://www.apple.com/iphone/, though the keynote video at the top link above is much better (though long at about an hour and forty minutes.
In any case, the amazing things are the User Interfaces that Apple is introducing. These are the people who brought us the mouse, and the scroll wheel. With the phone they're introducing, you can resize pictures with a "pinch" motion of your fingertips!
Cool stuff, and a neat glimpse into the future.
Regards,
Keith

Apple Computer has been an "Innovator" since it's inception.
Ist built on the promise for ease of use, then on the platform of quaility.
so what did they do?
Yes the mouse
Macintosh with GUI interface- Now on a Linux Based OS
Newton-flop
big push in educational use-more pc's now
better graphics-not anymore
scsi interface-PC also havethem and Apple uses IDE EIDE
risc processor- Mac is now using Pentium processors
iPod-Very cool interface But WAY over priced for something you need to return to manufacturer for battery replacement.
iPhone-too new to say-Someday it maybe considered inovative but for now just OVERPRICED.
and the real issue is with basic manufacuring quantity Apple loses it's cutting edge technology as they can not possibly turn inventory as fast as a PC. and with Apple using the same components as PC's, they can not call their quailty any better than any other PC out there.
In fact anyone with computer skills can build a much better system for less cost than a typical Macintosh.
I used to work for a company that supplied 85% of all computer clock batteries. Slowly the technology changed thus reducing the demand for that product but guess who was one of the last hold-outs continuing to buy our outdated product?
This comes from a guy that has 3 useless Mac's in his closet. :?

To me? Just another high-priced gizmo that I'll never own. I still don't own a cell phone. I enjoy being unreachable at times. In an emergency, contact will be made. I never understood why people (my wife included) would allow themselves to be bothered by a phone call that 99.99% of the time could have waited until it could be made on a home/business phone.
I-Pods. My son bought one. I could have kicked him in the a**. Showing me how cool it was to watch videos on that tiny screen. Like that's something he'll do. Then at the same time he's shopping for a big screen. Overpriced MP3 player.
Anyway, the IPhone is just another distraction to an already distracted driving population.

I agree for the most part but what you may not know is that iPod can be ported to his Big Screen TV so his videos are portable. If you ever rendered and burned a dvd you would know how much easier this little device will make sharing your videos.

hmmm...
I used to be a Mac bigot.
When I had a 1/2 dozen PC guys working with me I tired of the arguments and declared, "hey, whatever gets the job done." Now it's kind of cool to see a lot of PC guys really liking the unix-like Mac OS X.
I started my business on a Mac. Don't have one now, but the shop has a few. Still superior for video. A high price point, but not when you compare "Apples to PCs - with all the peripherals that PCs need for a comparison".
Still, whatever gets the job done.
Nevertheless, I think the Apple keynote is, indeed, a glimpse of the future.
Regards,
Keith
p.s.: I envy you the ability to not be plugged in kmfarm. Got to try that once in awhile myself.

Absolutely a glimpse of the future. But as I approach the time of my life where retirement is something I actually think of, as opposed to being something old people are, I reflect on the past and the coming future.
Is it just me or do we work more hours now than ever. The promise of a better, easier life with technological advances isn't coming true for me yet. Oh ya, entertainment is great and I do enjoy that. I've marketed and gained customers on-line that I otherwise would not have, but by and large, that's the biggest benefit to most of us, entertainment.
In business, technology was supposed to make us more efficient, lean and quicker to respond to customers. What seemed to happen though was now we have to employ an army of tech's constantly upgrading and purchasing high dollar equipment. Any gain or savings is spent on this ever-changing field.
Broad statements I know, just some reflections.
