who will keep the children safe?
It's sad when law officers do a very good job in situations of abuse to protect the young children, only to have the courts and social services place those children back into the homes of the very person's responsible for the mistreatment in the first place. Keeping families together is apparently the idea behind this gut wrenching danger. It's no wonder children shy away from or refuse to talk about what happens to them. Who is going to protect them once they have spoken? The court? Social Services? I have my doubts.
Of course the courts and social services will take many steps to conceal the child's identify from the community by making most of these cases juvenile or "closed cases". However, what this also does is keep the neighbors and locals from having knowledge of someone who has done harm to their children. Saving the perpetrator's reputation (what little they could possibly have), or that of the perpetrator's family who may feel they have a high position to protect in their communities for example, a pastor who's grandchild is a victim and the perpetrators are the offspring of the pastor.
What upsets me the most is when there's another parent who is more than willing to take on the responsibility of protecting their child. They get told, get a lawyer, petition the courts, etc. They should not have to go through such legnthly processes. Once it is proven that a child has been neglected or abused, the other parent should have the authority to step in and immediately have placement of the child!!! period!!!! No if, ands, or buts!!!!!
Beware of those around you and if you suspect neglect or abuse, please report it to the authorities. Let's hope they do the right thing.
