Classifieds: Wanted
Hey I don't know who else would make use of this classified area but I feel it would become quite a asset for folks. We have a ton of employees at my origination whom use this type of announcement, so I think the bubbler should modify the postings.

Please explain what you're looking for as an addition. We have message and announcements classifieds already, if that's what you mean. Are you suggesting "wanted: information on bird feeders" type ads?
The basic line I've tried to draw between classifieds and the forums (so they complement each other instead of overlapping) is that classifieds are for posts with no response or discussion, such as for sales or lost and found. Types of post that are better left for discussion or where the answer to it might be of interest to many people, should probably be in the forums. And then there are events, of course, which go equally well in the Calendar, the Announcement classifieds or the forums (I prefer to see them in the Calendar, but they do fit anywhere, really).
If that's not what you meant, please let us know.

It's coming....
I think I understand!
We'll be starting a forum for Wisconsin questions...general questions that we'll challenge our Mods to answer. RedRaven suggested this idea as well, a kind of 'Ask Earl' if you will, like the old 'Ask Andy' in the Green Sheet (now you know I'm an old fart ~ the Green Sheet for you youngsters out there was the daily funny papers part of the Journal printed on green newspaper).
I'll take care of adding this forum section soon.
AJE and I also talked about a separate "Pets Wanted" because there are many of those in the For Sale: Pets and Pet Supplies classified category.
~~~~~~~~
With all that said, I'm moving this thread to Site Suggestions.
Regards,
Keith
Can you define "general" questions? I usually use a PM to message someone if i have a question. Great idea though! Could you please clarify what general questions are?
general questions...
General questions - we get stuff like:
I have this old widget that was made by XYZ Company in Wisconsin in the 1920s. I can't find the company. Are they still around? Do they go by another name? Do they still make these Widgets?
-or-
When I was growing up in Wisconsin there was a Drive-In off of Hwy 16 just east of Oconomowoc. The Kiltie, I think. Is it still there?
I can't begin to describe all of the kinds of questions that might come up. We just got one the other day from a student who had to write a report on one of the Counties in Wisconsin. We referred her to the County page.
Quite frankly, we're trying to save some work answering emails from our Contact Us page with these kinds of questions. We don't have the resources to be a Library 'Ready Reference' for Wisconsin. Further, when messages/questions are posted for public consumption we're more likely to get more and better answers. Plus we'll be able to share the information with everyone...even someone doing a search engine search for that kind of information.
Regards,
Keith
progress!
...you're welcome. Earl, AWESOME answer on the Ginseng thing!!!
Thanks for moving appropriate posts over, too; I'm just guessing it was you that did that.
We got a ton of these questions by 'Contact Us'. We're re-doing the contact us page again to incorporate the Dept of Silly - AND SERIOUS - Questions. We thank everyone who helps answer these in advance.
The new contact us/forum category combo should:
1) serve as an incentive for people to register
2) save some staff time
3) help people get good answers to their questions and
4) build activity in the forums
The 'Wanted' Classifieds will come, just may take a while.
Regards,
Keith
