This thread is the place to click "Post Reply" and tell us where the fish are biting in Rock County!

You can also announce tournaments and such in this county here in this thread. (The main fishing forums recommended for that as well).

Subject Line: Lake or river name and what kind of fish are hitting

In the text: Please tell us whatever you can, including:

- where on the Lake / River
- what depth
- time of day
- bait / lure / presentation / colors
- boat access (and cost)

and anything else about the area like local bait shops, water hazards, alternative species and tackle in case the main stuff isn't happening, local places to stay, guide services, etc.

These three Rock County lakes are not what one would consider first-tier fisheries. Or, for that matter, even second-tier. But for those looking for a different experience – or those wanting to take the kids on an outing – the lakes are worth a look. The best of the bunch is probably Clear Lake. Pam Coppers of Milton Bait & Tackle, 24 S. Clear Lake Ave., Milton (608) 868-4421, says there are a few nice Northern Pike here, with a 36-incher having been caught in 1997. You’ll find Walleyes, too, though Coppers says they’re a hard bite because of the abundant forage in the lake. Of course, you’ll encounter a gazillion tiny Bluegills and Crappies for the kids. And there are some 3- to 4-pound Bass, here, as well; however, you might want to leave the bigmouths alone, since even the small ones are under a mercury advisory. Coppers suggests fishing the weedlines for all species, and, if mercury doesn’t bother you, fish the Bass around the docks. Gibbs, meanwhile, is another weedy lake which contains stunted panfish. But you’ll also find some nice Northerns and Largemouth – without mercury this time. Fish the weed edges and open spots, Coppers advises. In Storrs, you’ll encounter decent Bluegills for a change and also some mercury-less Largemouth, in addition to “snake” Northerns. Fish the pads for the bucketmouths with plastic worms. You’ll take the ‘gills on ice jigs or bobbers with crawlers or waxies. There’s good ice action on Storrs for snakes and ‘gills.
