Volunteer drivers needed
The Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids area is in need of volunteer drivers to transport veterans to their medical appointments at the VA Medical Centers in Milwaukee, Madison, Wausau, Tomah, Wisconsin Rapids and Appleton.
Our veterans have served this nation well. There are more and more veterans who will need this service as soldiers come home from overseas. There is no way we personally can thank the veterans who have died. To show our appreciation to the veterans who still are here, we can tell these veterans we care by making sure they can get to the medical care they need. We have a DAV van in Stevens Point/Plover that covers five counties getting veterans to their VA appointments. The van runs five days a week.
A lot of these veterans are elderly, and others do not like driving in the bigger cities. Also, some of these veterans do not have the funds to pay for transportation. You do not have to be a veteran to be a volunteer driver. You do not have to belong to a veteran's organization to be a volunteer driver. All you have to be is a caring individual who has some time to give and who wants to make a difference by helping others. This is one way you can give back to our nation's veterans. If you have one or two days a month where you can drive to help these veterans, it would make a great difference.
If you are interested, please call me at 715-340-7460.
