Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
I used to be really big into photography and would love to get back into it a bit more.
I miss the old days when I'd actually develop my own stuff but hey, digital makes things so much easier if you have a good camera!
I'd love a Nikon D40 or a Canon EOS.. but these days I own two Sanyo Xacti digitals.. a C4 and a CG6. Used to have a Minolta Z1 that I really loved. Want a waterproof for snorkeling.
What do you use?

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
I used to have a point and shoot and decided recently to move to little more. I now have a Nikon D60 and love it. I get off the auto setting occasionally but I do not know enough to venture far. I post some shots to flickr.

Re: Digital or Film Photography
Miss doing photography.
Have used only whatever was handy from a family member or work the last few years.
Nikon D40 at work, but I never took the time to get to know it like my old Nikon Nikormat 35mm.
I'd stay away from the Kodak easyshare digitals; I've gone through three of them.
BTW, nice to see you already invited theczern to share photos here.
Regards,
Keith

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
I use both digital and 35mm. I would like to shift over to all digital but I am still hemming and hawing over Canon vrs Nikon.
factors
1. digital slrs are so pricey
2. the technology changes so fast that your equipment is out dated before you really know all it's features
3.my favorite lense is a 21 mm ,anything of that catagory in digital is just plain insane for cost and again how long befor it is obsolete.
4. digital lense speeds apear to be much slower than 35mm but then I am usure if that is an issue with digital on speed and software editing tools.
Nikon seems to have the advantage over Canon but then I still a little upset over Nikons choice not to have reverse campatabilty when they changed to AI lenses.
I like the old Nikons, they were used for many years without becoming obsolete but that was then and this is now.
back in 1999 I told a photographer that digital cameras were going change everything in photography and he scoffed at me and even became angry with me, I wonder what he is doing now and if he uses digital.
digital cameras help people capture the most important events in their life and help to bring families closer.

I agree, that's one of the reasons I haven't bought a digital camera yet...
Although I'm lucky cause we have the Nikon D-40 at work... so if I really feel the need to shoot digital, I can borrow that...
I just got my first point and shoot 2 months ago, I never use it... I got it as a free hand me down from my brother-in-law, which is nice... I intended on using it for animation, using it like a higher quality webcam, but it's an older camera... and that webcam ability isn't there... so I had to buy a webcam, which is much lower quality then I would like.
Canon just released the XSi, which has the ability to use as a webcam, but still a little bit more then I can afford right now.
But the convenience is nice...
And it's nice to be able to shoot a lot more, and know that they will all turn out...
On the other hand, the artistic element is gone, you are forced to decide BEFORE you snap the photo whether it's going to be worth shooting or not. Every photo counts...
On a family vacation recently, I actually said No to taking photos of family members in front of waterfalls or by a statue, because I had to pay to have my film developed, and my sisters all have their own digital cameras, and they can be used to take the silly photos...
So I say you have to think more about what you are taking pictures of... but the positive aspect of digital is you can experiment a lot more.

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
I really thought medium to high end hybrid cameras were the answer but they never caught on. By hybrid I mean cameras that allow you to shoot both digital and film at the same time.
A few years ago I bought my girlfriend a hybrid (forgot the brand at the moment) but havem't heard anything about them since.

That's interesting... I never knew that hybrid cameras existed.
That seems to be the way that Professional Cameras are headed with the P2 cards, how you can record digitally onto a memory card... as well as on a tape...
although more and more cameras are being produced without a tape, and not having any moving parts...

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
My brother worked for Canon in tech support and swears by their products (which by default means he won't look at another brand, regardless of the specs). I'm not big on Canon and, Keith, Kodak would always be at the bottom of the barrel in my mind.
Speaking of Kodak, the Kodak Advantix APS was one of the first film cameras to allow digital preview of your pictures thru a LCD display. I'm not sure if this camera also allowed you to save the pics to a removable media card tho some did or allowed you to download the pics to your computer via a USB or serial connection. I think the one I bought my girlfriend was a http://www.imaging-resource.com/EVENTS/PMAS01/982640658.html.
My favorite 35mm film camera in the past was an Olympus IS series camera. I also enjoyed playing around with the Nimslo (3 lens) and Nishika 3D (4 lens) cameras (prints were similar to the old Xerographic lenticular prints). I'm sorry the 3D cams never caught on as they were alot of fun!

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
I think that the new 5D mark II by Canon is worth a look. The HD video along with full frame capability will be one that a lot of pros will use. Street price is 2,700 body only and 4 to 20 thousand for lenses.

Re: Digital or Film: What Do You Own?
Pocket change for guys like us.
I'm big on quality glass optics so have always leaned toward wanting or owning Hasselblad, Leica, Mamiya, or Nikon over the years.
My favorite digital to date was my Minolta Z1
