Photo Edges...

Are there any photogs out there who have a lot of experience with developing photography in a darkroom?

I used to do that quite a bit...

For those of you who have, when you are working with the easel, sometimes you would put your photo paper in the easel if you wanted sharp rectangular corners, and 90 degree angles...

But some of the more "artsy" folks out there, wouldn't use the easel, and instead they would just put the paper down, creating a "deckled" or unfinished edge.

I'm looking for 2 things...
1) Does anyone know the "Official Glossary Term" for this technique?
2) Does anyone know a good way to create that edge digitally, in photoshop perhaps...?

Re: Photo Edges...

Don't know the terms, but I used to soften edges when exposing the paper by waving a 'wand' around the edges to block the exposure somewhat, giving a soft fading effect.

Regards,
Keith

Yeah, that's called Dodging and Burning...
What I find interesting about that is, that it's something you can do in Photoshop, but nobody really uses it... so I think the terms Dodging and Burning as far as photography goes will become obsolete.

try using this viewer/editor
they have some premade borders that will give you rough edges

"FastStone Image Viewer" google for a link , it is FREE

If you like developing the old way I do have a Bessler 45m enlarger, you could get a very good deal on it. It has 50mm ,75mm and 135mm lenses with negative carriers from 35 mm to 4"x 5".
35mm re-rolling tool

I actually own an old Bessler color enlarger, it's currently sitting in my garage, under a tarp. I don't have a space in my house where I can set up a dark room, unfortunately. I've been thinking about selling it, and buying a smaller one, this one is huge...

I'll look into that FastStone Image Viewer, thanks for the tip...
