The question came up today on how to post a photo.
This made me start thinking of starting a how to thread.
If you have a technique for enhancing your photos, how about sharing here. Perhaps even a list of what photo editiors you use.
I will add more as I think of it and sak all you do the same.

I think the easiest photo editor is Microsoft Picture Manager...but hey thats just me, there are plenty of others that are more complicated but harder to explain how to use.
I thank you for introducing the photobucket to me...that gives you all the great codes to copy and paste(my favorite thing to do) to any forum, blog, or website you happen to be involved in.
This photograph was taken on Chambers Island in the mid 90's. It is of lake Mackasysee and it's island. Thus an Island with a lake with an Island. I used a Nikon Nikkormat ftN with a 500mm Mirro lens that has a f7 fixed aperature. I do not remeber the speed of film or the shuuter speed used. The film was developed by an online developer/print service ( Seattle filmworks) at that time I did not have a scanner but they provided scans on floppies disks. This is the main reason why the resolution is so low. It turned out ok for me because I like the mystery and shadows and the softness of the focus. A long telephoto lense is the most difficult to use because any motion in the camera during the exposure blurrs the shot. Even the vibration from the mirror (in slrs) affects the shot. I don't think that camera has the option of flipping the mirror up before tripping the shutter. That maybe another reason why is is not as clear. The other problem with telephoto lenses is loss of light, you really loses it in long lenses thus making focussing a trick. I bought this lens without thinking too much and as far as I can remeber there are only 2 photos I liked using it. This one and one of some ducks. To me it was a waste of money! I never carry it with me anymore, too heavy and then you NEED a Ttripod to use it, which adds more weight to load!
This is the original.
Modified using VicMan Photo Toolkit ,Lighting Effects selecting "Spring Sun"
Modified the above modification using VicMan Photo Toolkit ,Lighting Effects selecting and manaully made color corrections to siuit my liking.
I used Faststone Viewer/editior to convert the image to sepia tone and selected a frame mask to my liking.

I use a Nero Photo Editor. I can quiet the noise, remove red eye, resize, and the rest of the basic stuff. I haven't tried the fancy dancy stuff that j10asen has, but it's still early.
Enjoy theBubbler!

........
Seems worth it when you get shots like this one. Perhaps not all the time, but when you're heading out for serious shooting.
This is one of the best pictures I've seen ever.
I posted earlier about a story it reminded me of .... bet it makes a lot of us think of a story.
I use GIMP for my photo editing. I'm sure there is better out there, but this one works well and is free....my favorite kind! I use it a lot for resizing and adding text and stuff to pictures. It's also great for other graphics stuff.

I've looked into GIMP, I would like to work more with it because it is free...
I've been using Photoshop since Photoshop 7, I taught a class for 7-10 year olds on how to use Photoshop Elements, and they picked it up really quickly...
I did some neat stuff with that class, I showed them how to color a black and white photo by hand, and I also created a fake movie, and a fake rock band, and they got to design a movie poster and a cd cover...
I think that picasa is pretty neat cause it's a free way to edit in RAW photos, which is useful if you don't want to buy anything and you don't have the ability to purchase anything for that purpose.

There's nothing better than free...unless it's free with a ribbon tied around it!.
I have a little tip for watermarks on pictures.
Try out FastStone Photo Resizer
I like it because you can take one photo or a hundred photos and add a text or image watermark to them with a push of a button. This program also remembers your watermark settings, real easy to use and does the job fast.
Below is from the website:
* Convert and Rename images in batch mode
* Support JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIFF and JPEG2000
* Resize, crop, change color depth, apply color effects, add text, watermark and border effects
* Rename images with sequential number
* Support folder/non-folder structure
* Load and save settings
* And much more...
