Morning Glories and others

Wind in the Vines
The wind was blowing in a thunderstorm, whipping the vines and flowers into almost parodies of themselves. I had to take several shots of this before I could get one where the leaf didn't hide the flower at the last second.

By the Skin of My Leaf
The contrast in textures between the surface of the leaf and the delicate flower caught my eye.

Jack and Beanstalk
I don't actually know what this plant is. Every time I've bought morning glory seeds, there's been one these growing in the bucket, so it's obviously something with a similar seed.

Umbrella Tree
If you look at the edge of the leaves, you can just make out the fuzz that completely covers this unidentified plant.

My Porch This Morning
This one isn't a link to my gallery, just to a photo. It's a picture of my porch yesterday morning around 7:30 when I noticed that my morning glories were in full bloom again! I moved early last summer and so I planted them too late to get flowers last year. But just look at this year's planting!

No, I know the plant's not Jack in the Pulpit. I know many things that it is not, I just don't know what it IS.

"Jack and the Beanstalk" was a reference to the angle of the shot and the resulting appearance of the plant.

Love your 'wind in the vines'!

I have a whole collection of morning glory shots, just love taking them. I have a ton of wild morning glories. It's funny I try to plant them where I want them to grow and they won't, yet they grow like crazy where they want to grow!

That's ok, gives me alot of pleasure taking pics of them.

Thank you for sharing your pictures, I certainly enjoyed looking at them.

Thanks I love morning glories Mine are in a tub on my porch and they wrap around the skeleton of a peach tree that was originally growing in the tub but died when it got attacked by spider mites. Got the mites, but not before they killed the tree and the roses that had been nearby.

This is the first year my morning glories are setting seed where we live now. Wonder if I'll end up with "wild" morning glories next year from seeds that get whipped out by the wind...

Last summer we had wild morning glories everywhere. The neighbor had her share of them also when they went through the fence.

Pretty

That last picture is great! I don't think I've ever seen morning glories where the star pattern was the darker part of the flower. But then, I always buy the blue ones that you see in my pictures, so that might have something to do with it

It's funny but I never noticed before that morning glories come without the star being darker such as the variety you have. But thinking about it morning glories do come in so many different colors and sizes now. I do like the purple ones the best though.

All I know is morning glories grow the best for me as long as I don't try to tell them where to grow! lol They love to be wild and free, so I let them do their own thing each year.

I have a ton of pictures of morning glories. Since I seem to have quite a few I am out taking pictures of them in the rain, in the early morning, in the sunshine, when they are small, when they are wild all over, when I'm bored! My neighbors really must think I am very strange! lol But it's hard not to take pictures of something when it's right there out your back door!

Yeah, I have a little trouble with the birds and squirrels going after my flower seeds. They think those big black morning glory seeds are sunflower seeds I think! I just kind of chalk it up to only having a patio because I'm in an apartment -- my bird feeder is right by my plants!

If I ever manage to get my own house, there will be at least one fence that is covered with morning glories and moonflowers. Those blue ones I get are hybrids. They set seed but the seeds didn't sprout when I planted them the second year. That's probably a good thing since I'm next to a wooded area and I'd hate to see it become a non-native invader.

Morning Glorious

Morning Glories are one of my favorite flowers, but I must admit I've never met a flower I didn't like! All the photos here are so beautiful and a nice escape on a cold winter day. The umbrella tree shot almost looks like a tiny hot air balloon.

I don't have any close up shots, but I have a garden arch they love to cover. One year I grew red and blue Morning Glories with white moonflowers (part of the morning glory family). I've grown moonflowers every year since. The flowers are as big as my hand and smell heavenly.

The first picture was taken in early July. By the end of summer, the Morning Glory vines were so thick, we couldn't walk through the arch!
