Wisconsin cat sails to France

APPLETON, Wis. — A month after vanishing from home, a stowaway cat from Wisconsin is getting the star treatment in France.

The tiger-striped cat named Emily turned up in a cargo container that had been shipped across the Atlantic.

A spokeswoman for a company in northeast France said workers found the cat after hearing meows coming from a container filled with bales of paper.

Fortunately, Emily was wearing a tag and the company was able to contact the cat's owners.

The family, who live near a paper warehouse, say they're now trying to figure out how to get Emily back home after she goes through the required quarantine.

A Wisconsin newspaper has already heard from someone scheduled to fly from Paris to Chicago in December. She's offering to bring Emily home.

OK, so maybe in the whole scheme of this doesn't compare to crossing the ocean in a crate. My cat was a stowaway in my engine compartment from Black River Falls, Wisconsin to Sussex (just north of Waukesha). The whole story is in my journal
