Drivers needed for meals on wheels

Oneida County Department On Aging is looking for a few good drivers to volunteer to deliver home- delivered meals, and provide escort rides for older adults in the community. Volunteers will receive 44 cents per mile to help cover driving expenses. Volunteers have the option of selecting the amount of time and the number of days they volunteer .

The home-delivered-meals route, generally takes from one to two hours and starts after 10:30 a.m.

Volunteer escort drivers provide transportation for older adults and persons with disabilities beyond the scope of the department's bus service. Volunteers have the choice of accepting or declining ride requests, which vary in distance and time required.

Volunteer drivers need a dependable vehicle, a good driving record and a desire to help others. Training is provided, so volunteers feel comfortable with assignments. Standard vehicle insurance is adequate for driving as a volunteer.
