Northwoods Mounted Search and Rescue is pleased to make itself available for any search and rescue needs you may experience in this area.

We are a mounted horse unit of between 10 and 20 people, trained in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, land navigation, personal and equine survival, and other outdoor skills. Augmented by radio equipment, we use well-trained horses capable of searching large tracts of forest land, snowmobile trails, fields, and other terrain to locate downed aircraft, hunters or hikers lost in the woods, or respond to other emergency situations. We work with, not replace, services provided by law enforcement, volunteers on foot or all-terrain vehicles, Civil Air Patrol, or Headwaters Search and Rescue dog patrols.

The unit works under the direction of local sheriff's departments.

I used to live there and visit all the time, so I feel qualified to tell a few awesome things:

Obviously, the Hodag on the way into Rhinelander on 8 is a sight to see/photo op for visitors - more info at my friend's site home of the hodag - hodag.info | all about rhinelander's hodag

For hardcore mountain bikers, check out the trails at Hanson Lake - go to the Wisconsin DOT office in Rhinelander and there are trails right behind there....

For the best sandwich in Rhinelander, stop at the Northwestern Lounge right next to Mel's Sporting Goods on Brown Street... good times

For the best bar in Rhinelander, I'd go with Pat's Tavern on Brown Street or Bucketheads also on Brown Street - good beer selection at both, minimum of weirdos although it IS the Northwoods..... in Minocqua check out Bosackis, the Yacht Club, Murtaughs, and the Belle Isle.....

In the summer, if you need an ice cream, there is a stand in Rhinelander on Brown Street right across from the police station called "Jet's Dairy Bar" it was just reopened and has AWESOME raspberry sundaes with fresh raspberries....

Best meats in Oneida County goes to Bessey's Meat Market on the Pelican River on Highway G/Oneida Ave right down from Channel 12 - the TV News station - they have an awesome selection of meats.... ALSO see the Meat Market in Lake Tomahawk right on 47 - they have the BOMB beef jerky, people come from all over for their jerky it rocks...
