FEATURED FORUM THREAD

Title: What are your favorite books for kids?

I've got a ton of favorites for kids. Before listing a few, I recommend anything that is a Caldecott or Newbury Medal winner.

My favorite as a kid (about second or third grade; bought a copy again last year, used because it is out of print) is Louis
Slobodkin's, A Spaceship Under the Apple Tree. This is a wonderful little tale of a boy spending the summer at Grandma's country house where a spaceship lands and the boy gets his new friend, "Marty", to join scouts with him.

Another huge favorite I've re-read as an adult is the Madeleine L'Engle (sp?) series: A Wrinkle in Time, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and A Wind in the Door.

Frosty the Snowman was read to me a million times. A big old hard cover. I read the same copy to all of my kids about a million times apiece.

So, what do you recommend for the little ones. We'll start our own reading rainbow here.

Talk with other people from all over Wisconsin in theBubbler's Forums!

My favorite book as a kid was "Shadow Castle". I received it when I was in 4th grade and I still have the book.

My youngest son enjoyed the "Little Critter" books from the time he was two years old. We bought him every one they printed at the time and he learned to read them before he started kindergarten. When he got older, the Goosebumps series of books were his favorites.

Re: Featured Forum Thread: What are your favorite books for kids?

I used to get books from the Arrow and Scholastic Book Club of the Month all the time when I was a kid.

Loved all the Henry Huggins books by Beverly Cleary..

Re: Featured Forum Thread: What are your favorite books for kids?

I love children's books! For toddlers, Richard Scarry's word book, "Cars and Trucks and Things that Go". The Dr. Seuss books. John Buller's "Fanny and May" is an all-time favorite. The Steven Kellogg books for zaniness, then Liesel Moak Skorpen books for thoughtfulness. For read-aloud chapter books, "Little Britches" by Ralph Moody and "The Hounds of the Morrigan" by Pat O'Shea. At Christmas we always read "Warton's Christmas Eve Adventure". There are so many great books that have been published since we were reading children books. It is great fun to revisit the children's area of the library.

Re: Featured Forum Thread: What are your favorite books for kids?

I'm always combing the used book stores for books I recall as a kid..

As a collector I also like the older illustrated books. Here are a few in my collection:
