Title: Favorite Wisconsin Museum?

Anyone have a favorite Wisconsin museum they'd care to share? Interesting experience or favorite exhibit?

Personally I love museums .. not only are they educational and fun, but often they're free! .

I've always enjoyed going to Old World Wisconsin near Eagle. I love to see how people lived back in the "good old" days when life was so much simpler. We took the kids there almost every summer when we lived in Walworth county.

Re: Featured Forum Thread: Favorite Wisconsin Museum?

It doesn't exist anymore, but one of my favorite little museums was discovered the first time I walked around the town of Delavan, about 1993. It was in a new age shop that was being rented out by an elderly woman. She was charging $5 (something like that) to go into a back room and look at a miniature of Circuses that used to be in Delavan during the 1800's. It must have been made during those years as well, because it was really old! The whole place was dusty and dark, and the atmosphere was indescribable, but it had a charm to the whole experience that I never forgot. Then I walked down to the actual Circus Museum that has since moved up to Baraboo, Wi. That was also quite interesting! I really miss having it nearby to bring friends and visitors. When I finally did drive up to Baraboo to the Circus Museum, it was a great and fun day, fascinating in fact. But it didn't hold the thrill I felt when I chanced upon those old places in Delavan. I still love this area for the history it holds.

I know the place in Delavan you are talking about. We were there once too when the kids were younger. We lived in Elkhorn from 1992 to 1998 and loved going to the parades and the Circus Museum in Delavan. Is that old Victorian House on the main street still open for tours? That was such a lovely place with all the antique furnishings, especially when it was decorated for Christmas! The cobblestone street downtown is so unique and the ice cream shop that was on the corner had the best flavors. We always had to stop there for some when ever we were in the area!
