Re: Site of the Week: Recovery Life Coach Cheryl Frei
When we abuse drugs or alcohol, we are basically self abusing. Thats right, we are abusing ourselves. In order to abuse oneself, there has to be negative thoughts we are thinking about self to sustain the action neccasary to act out.
Addiction is a thinking problem, and it is centered in the mind. In order to change ones behavior, we must work on changing the thoughts that evoke certain behaviors such as abusing alcohol or drugs. Negative thoughts have to be challenged and exchanged for positive thoughts that are still true for the individual.
Thats what we do in recovery coaching, we work on challanging and changing individual thoughts one is thinking. We can create a mind that is much healthier when we work with thought.
Sounds simple enough...yet it can be extremely challenging work that occurs for coach and client! Want to step out of misery, you first must recognize the thoughts that support that perspective, then challenge those thoughts, and then find more support thought to replace them with. You can't cheat thought, if you really do not believe a thought you are trying to believe...it is a loosing game. Thats where I come in, I help you to find the positive thoughts that are even more true, and then the game gets real fun and real easy!
