Welcome! TheBubbler underwent a major upgrade on Sunday, September 17th.

ORIGINAL POST: It is noon on Sunday, September 16th. Remember, the Packers are playing the Giants (on Fox) right now. Mike and I left the office about 6:15 this morning, after transferring theBubbler to a new server and checking basic functionality of all our new features and programming across the site.

I'll be in the chat room (go to Features >> Chat in the menu bar above) during the game and intermittently after the game today.

Notes on Updates:

We still have to import guestbook entries. Right now you can sign guestbooks by signing "quick comments" (we'll probably rename that as "guestbook"). To see your guestbook entries you need to click on "show all quick comments" on your Member page.

I'll edit this post with important info.

You can add replies, too.

Great Chat yesterday during the Packer game. We'll plan to chat some more during the next game.

New Bubbler...coool.
Hey, I've been having problems with a few of the features.
First one, when I post a recipe, seems everything that goes in the blanks is erased when I click the preview button, except a few sentences I typed in one of the blanks. Seems copy/paste doesn't work. I have alot of recipes, and they are all in a file in my documents. Having trouble posting a photo with the recipe, as well. I took the time to resize the photo to the required dimensions.
Second, I wanted to add a buddy, can't find where that feature is.
Third, I chat, I was testing with another member night before last /yesterday morning. She posted a link, and when I clicked it, the pop-up blocker advised that one was blocked...so I took the steps to allow it, and was removed from the chat room, sent back around to where I had to sign back in to chat. The room that I was re-routed to was a full screen.

Definately sounds like a bug, Mark.
We will have someone look into that problem. Can you tell us what browser you were using? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Safari?

If you want to add a buddy to your buddy list that appears in one of the boxes on the left side of the screen, click on the text that says Buddy List at the top of that box. You will be directed to a new screen with a box that says Buddy / Ignore Lists

Put the username of the buddy you want to add to that list in the box and click save list.

Hopefully there isn't anyone you want to ignore, but if there is, you can add their screen name to the Ignore list box and you will have a list of non-buddies.

You can also add people to your network.
To do that...
Go to the person's profile.

If you are using the default blue profile view you will see a Network with username and Message Username near the top left of your screen. Click on the Network with Username link. Pick a group to add them. (You can add additional groups). When the user next logs in they will get a PM that will allow them to either approve or reject your request.

This is something we noticed right away too. I suggest you do the following when in chat until we can find a solution.

When entering chat, right click on the chat link and choose open in a new window or open in a new tab. (whichever option is your preference)

When viewing any links within the chat, also do the right click thing.
This will allow you to keep your chat window open and other chatters won't think your connection has epilepsy <grin> because you are logging in and out sporatically.

While there are a TON of great features here, I've got some update requests, listed below:

Quick Reply needs to be enabled.

In standard "Reply to Thread" it would be nice to have the controls for font size, color, bold, links, etc.

Apostrophes cause \ in Titles and Title Tags

Main Classifieds Menu at http://www.thebubbler.com/forums/vbclassified.php needs the 'vBclassified' link to show as "Free Wisconsin Classifieds"

I'm thinking we should do away with the Search fields at the main classifieds page (http://www.thebubbler.com/forums/vbclassified.php) and only use the appropriate search boxes within categories.

The main classifieds page drop-down menu might better show only the broad classifieds topics...by the time you scroll down the list of all the categories, you'lve scrolled down the page.

Mike has quite a list he's working on already...I've asked him to add that here so we can all track the continued improvements we're making.

I just added my first recipe and yes there is a bug in the code.

You can enter all the information into the recipe module.
At this point if you hit submit, it will post fine.

If however you hit preview, then you see the preview (without the ingredients listed).
Below that is the area where you edit, which is now completely blank. If you try to hit submit after hitting preview you get a message:

some mandatory fields were not filled.
please use BACK button, fill missing data & re-submit your recipe.

So as Mrkhay says the cut and paste doesn't seem to be working.

MrKhay, if you hit submit and not preview first you should be good to go.

Ive always been fond of the flashchat program, good choice. looking forward to using it soon.

I like the new look. real clean!
like the use of blues, they work real good togeather.

I have noticed however that the template and the header are both variable width, but that the widths are not set the same. the header fills the whole width, while the rest has a grey border on the left and right sides.
of course in the past i have seen this done on purpose, so if there is a reason for this then forget i said anything.

also, looks like wisevents is still trying to use the old classified rss feed:

feeds on wisfeeds that talk to the bubbler don't work (actually that probably applies to all of the wis* sites that grab content because wisvehicles is broken too)

A NEAT NEW FEATURE FOUND - Guest Book Conversations better than ever:

Used to be funny carrying on conversations in guestbooks. Someone signs mine, I reply in theirs...half the conversation in each place.

Just got my first GB signature (thanks, imkaydee!) and when I replied with quote, it put her quote and my reply in BOTH our guest books. Well done, Mike!

Looks like I'm not allowed to rate photos. Says I'm not allowed to edit the photos...thing is, I wasn't trying to edit the photo, only rate it. It didn't happen with just one...I tried with a few different photos, submitted by various members.

Yep!

I keep finding tweaks and bugs ---like the ones listed above that we'll address--- but the really cool thing is that I keep finding cool stuff that works just right once I figure it out.

The admin / mod controls for approving links and replies to classifieds and such is way cool!

Thanks for sharing the bugs above, everyone...and the kudos.

We'll address them all, many in short order.

Ok, I'm not Mike, but I want to point out that I think that's a security risk. If we find a vulnerability that needs to be fixed, we'll be putting it in the tracking system so it gets queued to be fixed. Also, certain errors can betray the underlying code and give malicious hackers and spammers extra information on ways they can compromise our site. We don't want random people to be able to log in and see things like that.
