Storm Spotter Training Begins in March 2007
Storm Spotter Training Begins in March
Storm spotters are volunteers who help their community and NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) by keeping an "eye on the sky" during severe weather. Our spotters contact the NWS via phone, amateur radio, or the Internet, keeping our forecast staff updated with the latest weather information from their location. If you would like to become a severe weather spotter for northeast or north-central Wisconsin, you must attend the training presented by NWS Green Bay.
Every spring, 20 to 25 classes are held across the area. The 90 minute training seminar is fast paced and filled with information. Most classes are scheduled by county emergency management offices and many are open to the public. If a class is not scheduled for your county, you may attend a class in a nearby location.
The 2007 severe weather spotter training schedule is taking shape, but more will be scheduled in the next few weeks. The schedule is available on-line by clicking on the Storm Spotters Page link under "Current Hazards" on the left-hand menu.
