Reality shows suck

Ok I typed this once and I'll try it again.

What's the deal with reality shows taking over The tube? If I wanted reality I'd look out the window.

I'm probably the only person who has never watched a reality show in it's entirety. About 5 minutes is about as much as I can stomach.

I can't Pick Richard Hatch?(survivor) out of a line-up, Donald Trump now has an ego to match his millions, but I still don't know any of the contestants...and don't care too. As far as I'm concerned, Fran Drschler is and always will be the nanny. Shouldn't "wife swap" be on the playboy channel or am I missing something?

Trading places...what's that all about? I've been doing that for 30 years and noone ever filmed it. Wanna know why....BORING They say the average person swallows 5 spiders a year...so why would you want to eat more? Crashing cars, laying in bugs and snakes, eating guts, jumping off moving vehicles, Fear factor my butt, they ought to call it "stupid people"

Bachelor..bachlorette...yeah right, from the adverts I've seen they should call that "hire a whore and gigalo". Save us all some time and just put the bachelor and bachlorettes picture on a billboard above the caption DESPERATE or LOOSER. Does anyone really think a deep meaningful relationship will come from this?

lol another rant
Rex

I think some of them are pretty interesting, usually only for the first season though. After that it gets to be the same old thing.

The Apprentice is actually one I can stand to watch, because "The Donald" pretty much tells it like it is. Also, the people on that show are usually so full of themselves, I love their expressions when they get canned.

Even if I don't really watch any of them, at least the reality shows lend a little variety to prime time TV and it isn't just the same old rehashed sitcoms over and over.

Depends on the show. I agree about the Fear Factor and Survivor and whatever types, but I like the more documentary shows, like American Chopper. I watch that one quite a bit. And I've gotten some interesting ideas from Monster House that I'll probably try when I own my own house...

Good call Rex, most reality shows aren't "real" at all. Try putting The Donald into a minimum wage job and low-income housing with three small kids to feed. That would be an interesting reality.

I must confess to being an "American Idol" addict. Idol season is like a part-time job for me, I'm that dedicated. There's something so captivating about finding talent in the rough. The untalented folks at the start of the season are some of the best to watch. Later in the season, I always find a contestant to dislike so I can cheer for him/her to blow it. Maybe that's why reality TV is so popular... it's an escape from our reality.

hmmmmm

I've never watched American Idol, Is that the one with Simon? I guess the thing I have against shows like American Idol, and this is from past experiences, not from seeing American Idol (wow now is that a sentance or what) They are all political, a sham, usually the ones with the most talent don't win.
HMMM wait a minute, thats the award shows..lol
As for the Donald, if these people have so much going for them, why do they go on a show that makes them look like an idiot? Why aren't they already working?
Of course I realize everyone is searching for thier minute in the spotlight, but as a fool?
Thanx for the responses
Rex

Don't get Donald Trump confused with Paris & Nicole. He is a brilliant businessman / salesman and got to where he is today by a lot of hard work.

The Donald has certainly worked to get where he is, but he is now on a completely different plane than the average person. It would be interesting to see how he would handle everyday drudgery with his strict business know-how. Perhaps we working stiffs could learn something, like firing our family members for not picking up their laundry!

what about...

Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe? I love this show! Couldnt have picked a better host for it in my opinion. His comments and facial expressions are the best! To me this has got to be one of the better shows on t.v.
Monster house and Home make-over are pretty good shows also...alot of cool ideas they have. As far as the Tuettles go...i only watch it for Mikey...this guy is awesome!

I used to watch them in the beginning, more of a curiousity, I like the episodes of whatever when they do them in Vegas as I will probably never get back there again, (sure was one heck of a vacation tho!), then along comes fear factor.....one glimpse of their 'food' and iI head for the hills....cannot take liking bugs, etc just for money....give me my autosurfing thank you! lol...I cant even get on the ozzi wagon...never was my style...now we almost know when they breathe...another one..Stern...now he's an experience.(what IS our world coming to?)..but I got a 1 share stock (shareholder) in the Sirius radio just cuz he went there...now oprah going there too so won't be a big loss...if I could swing it I might try that out...anyone here use it? the Sirius radio thing?

Jan

Enjoy your realism....

Re: Reality shows suck

This is an old thread but what is your opinion of "reality based programming" these days?

Too much or can't get enough?

With just a few exceptions, game shows and reality shows are about all I watch..
